I have a Marklin 3397 Steam Engine fitted with a Marklin decoder and Im trying to operate it on a layout controlled with a Lenz LZV100 with LH90 and LH100 handsets.
But the Lenz does not seem to recognise the MFX decoder. I believe that that the Lenz system recognises DCC but no MFX.
The decoder address is 24. Any ideas on how I can get the locomotive to run on the Lenz DCC system. Ive search the Net but to no avail
Your help appreciated and anticipated.

Which decoder (ref. number)?
Follow the instructions that came with the decoder. Which protocols are documented for the decoder?

Regards
Tom

You have to set first at CV 50 adress and choice which protocol to switch off.
I believe your decoder stand only mfx.
If your decoder doesn´t have DCC protocol, you have to change out decoder to newer decoder made of Märklin or other products.
Lenz LZV100 supports only DCC.

We don't know what kind of decoder the loco has and we cannot know what CV 50 does.

It could be an ESU V3 decoder that does not support DCC.

Decoders in Märklin boxes can be ESU decoders - just like coaches in Märklin boxes can be Tillig or Fleischmann.
The Märklin 6092x mfx decoders are ESU decoders.

Maybe he has 6094x or 6096x, maybe ESU, maybe a decoder ripped out of a Märklin loco.

Thanks for all the info. But after more investigation into the history of this locomotive I believe that the decoder is an upgrade and I think Marklin so no idea of the part number.
I have tried to look at the CV values on my CS3 but no values numbers are listed. Im sure now that I will have to replace the decoder with one from ESU. Which Loksound one do you this would be the best. Im a real novice when it comes to decoders.
Thanks

Maybe you can find the Decoder Manufacturer ID as shown here on the CS2:
cs2_cvs_information_en.png
It can be 151 for ESU or 131 for Trix.

A retrofit decoder with ID 131 should support DCC, a retrofit decoder with ID 151 does not.

Did you open the loco? Is the decoder plugged in or soldered in?
Makes a difference when choosing your new decoder.

Spare parts list for 3397 by Maerklin

in the columne for the 3397 # 48, you see that this loco did not have a decoder on board when it was delivered by Maerklin.

Here a bit more information about this loco 3397 BR 03
http://www.lokshow.de/sh...DR&Seite=38&SID=

So you really have to find out, what kind of decoder you have inside of your loco.
