I have a BR 18 473 which came out of set 29854. The sound module appears to be a 601866 12/2001 VER 1.2 BS. It has a Whistle and Bell. Should it have Chuff as well? I am new to digital, very much so.
Also, does anyone know what the model number is for this loco? |

Hi!
Locos from starter sets from the past decades were not available separately. The loco does not have a five-digit ref. number. It surely has a six-digit ref. number internally at Märklin, but the number has little value for the collector. It also has a different number at Koll's Katalog.
It has bell and whistle sound, but no chuff-chuff sound. |

If you want to change the decoder to sound, you must also change motor. This model from the starter set do have ac motor. |

That's definitely a DC motor and C90 decoder. Just change the decoder for a modern sound decoder from Marklin or ESU. A relatively straight-forward conversion. |

Yes very nice. This is the conversion that I did 1 month ago of a 3318, (similar 18.4 the same frame) with motor 60941 and 60975 mSD3 decoder. I put the speaker in the tender (not shown). You have the motor!!! Is a bit narrow and you must be very careful and isolate the inside of the body with tape, just in case.... The 60985 mSD3 or 60982 mLD3 are better because they are smaller. I have another one 18.4 and I shall use the 60985 mSD3... Don't hesitate to ask for anything that you need. Have good time Costas Notice: The two thin black wires with the SIL socket are for the cabin Light....All Lights LED of course. Edited by user 15 December 2016 10:07:52(UTC)

You can see the difference in size.... 60982 (left) 60972 (right) Also the different in wire color coding (no problem the manual explains all) 60982=NEM, 60972=Marklin The 60985 (sound) is a bit longer Costas

Help. Prompt, please, on my photo decoder, how to connect it to my Marklin steam locomotive "BR 03 (3097)"? In the instructions on page 28, there is a scheme, I can not figure out what scheme to connect Marklin or NEM? When connected according to the Marklin scheme, there is as if a short circuit :(
