True words, Caboose
It is most interesting seeing those various changes in production as years go by ...
For decades there was only F7. Not much detailed but super sturdy. Lasts 200 years
Then came Mikado, BigBoy, GG-1 and PA-1. Highly detailed but one must handle them with care [:p]
Just love both lines ...
I hope no one visits a poor Southener's layout in Brooklyn. Intruders beware of Gators.

Another thing that's strange, but at the same time typical for M, are that they never/almost never change roadnumbers, or offers different roadnumbers on a specific locomotive.
For exampel the old F7's. Most of them got #337 regardless of RR-company, driv-unit or dummy.
I must say that in this matter are M economicly stupid against them self. Why?
Because some customers will buy 1 locomotive if there are just 1 roadnumber avalible, but BOTH locomotives if there are 2 roadnumbers avalible!

I think the F7's originally had the model number 337 from marklin.
these things are not exactly scale, which is why even with a nice die cast body, 99% of american modelers wouldn't buy them, so a discrepancy over the road numbers is not a big deal. these things all had different headlight configurations rr to rr, and I'm sure many other differences.
I think there's also some controversy of the as to whether they are an F3 or an F7 - apparently they are a mix

here's a nice new release from BLI that I think I will be getting when it comes out. It will have to be converted to 3-rail, as we will NEVER see this one from marklin

Tis indeed a very nice model.
I have their BR01 in AC. If this is built something similar it should be a breeze to convert. ONly problem is that I think it is a bit complicated in getting the body off. SHould be a Loksound 3 Decoder in it.

John, thats a great finding, my congratulations.
The F7Bs look excellent with the PA. An impressing consist! I frequently run my UP F7B together with the UP PA-1 as well. Looks great with freight trains.
Will we ever see new US stuff made by M* ? Umm, no, I don't think so. M*'s US enthusiasm is over for now. Maybe we may ask again in 20 or 30 years.

Con-cor (plastic stuff) now has a UP M10000 in HO, which is the railcar shown in the small inset photo on JohnBlack's posting. I have no idea about the quality of Concor trains, but is an interesting looking thing. I believe they were called caterpillars.

Will have to check that CON-COR stuff (oughta be similar to VARNEY, perhaps ...
)
I hope no one visits a poor Southener's layout in Brooklyn. Intruders beware of Gators.

you can see the actual aero train at the St Louis transportation museum. however its not in a good spot to get a good photo. The museum is well worth a visit for any RR or MRR fan if visiting the St Louis area. they even have some kind of little Italian electric loco there for some odd reason. They have a huge collection of locomotives and passenger cars.

That Aero-train is not unlike the current Marklin Insider model in concept?
Also, the National Transportation Museum in St Louis is one of only two places you will get to see a Norfolk and Western Y class 2-8-8-2 in the flesh. Y6a #2156.
The other place is the Illinois Transport Museum near Chicago, where they have a Y3, but not sure of the number.
Very impressive machines in my opinion. The Y classes were compound locomotives, quite uncommon anywhere in the world.

Kimball

seems more like from the account in wikipedia that the aerotrain was more of a marketing gimick by GM to compete with the growing jet and constellation airliners. also said to be very rough riding (coach frames used bus designs). Not sure if that is comparible to the Senator.
I got some photos of the Y6a at St Louis. Broadway limited/PCM did a model of this one, but it must have sold out the run quickly as I rarely see it on ebay anymore.
I visited the Illinois RR museum west of chicago if that's the same one you are referring (there's also the museum of technology in Chicago proper). I don't recall a Y class there. Most of their collection of steamers are rusting hulks stored outside (watch out for the wasps and hornets when walking through this section) - about 75% of the locos, whereas St Louis's collection seems to be a little better maintained.

My dealer got the 29490 set two days ago ... acute Märklinitis struck as lightening from a clear sky
... my first GG1 plus 8 new and rather nice freight cars are now added to the US fleet [:p][:p][:p]
Some pics lifted from ebay ... don't really do the set justice

The set is very nice [:p] The GG1 is a magnificent machine and the 3 tank cars are outstandingly detailed and of course as heavy as the tank cars from a few yrs ago. On first inspection the hopper cars appear slightly longer than those from recent UP and NYC sets.
And the whole set is only about 100 € more expensive than a single GG1 [:0]
