Hello,

I am also looking for a suitable locomotive for 49950 and 49951.
Maybe the following thread will help us decide.

Won't that red clash with the yellow crane colour? Confused

Hi Stephen,

Does the BR212 enough weight and power to pull the complete Goliath set?

And you're correct is the 49950 set!

Thanks.

It should have in scale 1:1.
For scale 1:87 you could use a BR 218 or a BR 232 if the BR 212 is too weak.

Yellow V 100 with red Goliath:

Orange V 100 with yellow Goliath:

In both cases it's V 100 East, not V 100 West.

I'm not sure if you're looking for one of the newer V100/212 models, but the Marklin #3072 (V100 in DB red) is a pretty strong locomotive.

Hi,

yesterday I used a Br212-V100 from WIEBE (Märklin 88695) and it worked perfectly with the all set, the 2x flat wagons as well as the Goliath Crane wagon.

Meanwhile I received another sugestion: a Ludmilla in the blue livery from Märklin (Ref. 36423)

What do you think about this option?

Thanks.

Nice loco for passenger trains, but for track maintenance trains I'd rather use any red Ludmilla.

Tom

No, this turquoise blue is the colour of local passenger trains used in early era V. Some maintenance cars had a darker turquoise back in era III or IV. And the prototype of 36423 was the only loco that was painted in that colour.
You're king in your own country and on your layout it can haul any train.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your advice.
I'll go for a red or dark/red diesel locomotive. (Ludmilla / V100-Br212).

Thanks.
Regards.

Hi,

And what about the DB AG AW Meiningen BR 202 Diesel Locomotive?
UserPostedImage

It's a good choice to the Goliath Trains Set or it's a better option to use in a composition of Track Maintenance Equipments?

Hi,

I noticed some problems with the Goliath Set mainly on the turnouts.
Then I realised the wheels on the all set seems to be a very old version, because there are too thick.
This issue turns even more serious when I tried to park the all set on a Train-Safe Vision tube for AC items.

I easily replaced the wheels on the 2 support wagons of the crane, but replace the wheels on Crane it is another story!

The wheels on the Crane that are too thick are not connected to the engine, so it should be "easy" to replace them, but the axis of this thick wheels are "fixed" to a metal structure that seems to be part of the bogie.
The bogie inner part wheels of the crane that are connected to the engine have the right dimensions.

How can I replace only those thick outer part wheels on this crane?
Is there a "How to" manual or instructions sheets that show how replace the crane wheels?

The first photo shows on the right side the original thick wheels and on the left side the wheels I replaced on both wagons.

As you can see on the second photo the same original thick wheels are also installed on the outer part of the bogie although they are not connect to the engine.

Any suggestions to solve and/or minimise this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Ayala Botto

Hi Ayala,
I am almost sure the the model you have is the Trix Express version #33951. The kind of wheels and specially the slider tell me that. I think this model comes with the same decoder as the Marklin one and thet is the reason why you can contol it in motorola mode.

I can't help you on the way to replace the wheels but should be possible with the right tools.

Regards
Eduardo

Hi,

Märklin 36216 V160 Br216 Diesel locomotive in red paint scheme is also a good option to use with this Goliath Crane Set?

Those wheels are definitely Trix Express wheels.

Both are era V. The loco has the new DB logo. It seems the crane has the old logo.

For a while both logos could be seen side by side, so it's not impossible.
That loco is also an inexpensive option.

Märklin made the BR 216 earlier in oriental red with old logo (analogue or Delta versions).
You can also use the versions in purple red with the old logo. The loco from the start set 29710 (some dealers sell it separately) would also be an inexpensive option.
Regards
Tom
