Does anybody know how to do a 4-way crossing with 4 long K-track turnouts? Which crossing track piece goes in the middle?

Well, I mean something like this:

UserPostedImage

This is forcing tolerances, and using Raily. I was looking for a clean solution, but I'm starting to believe none exist...

Besides, this uses in fact, s-curves, which is a recipe for certain derailment.

It doesn't matter, really. The fact is there is no 14º24' crossing or double switches in the k-track assortment.

Hi Luís,

You are trying to built a "Hosenträger", right?

Can't you use the 2257 crossing (14º26') along with the 22715/22716 turnouts (14º26')?

The straight piece (shown with a 2209 on your figure) you might have to adapt to the correct length (Dremel cutting and soldering required [xx(]).
With C-tracks there were no way to combine standard tracks to fit the gap. [:(!] This is probably the same with K-tracks.

Edited: Have a look here (C-track though) - lots of good advice and suggestions by members: https://www.marklin-user...ault.aspx?g=posts&t=8260

Hello Luis,

How much room do you have, it is possible with the Double slip switch # 2275 (14,26') or the cross over # 2257.

well there is just that ! item 2275 but what you are really looking for is a crossing with 7°14' curves... but this should work very well..

2271 - 2234 curve - 2275 - 2234 curve - 2271
this gives you a distance between the straight parts of 335.2 mm which you can fill with some flex track or the following:

2207 (1) 156
2202 (1) 45
2293 (1) 41.3
2208 (2) 35.1
2204 (1) 22.5

I used my track solver to solve the track pieces needed to fill the 335.2mm gap... http://layout.mixmox.com/1/calc

and if you are happy with a 121mm spacing between the parallel tracks then you can use:

2271 - 2224 - 2258 crossing - 2224 - 2271
and use 2x 2208 to fill the straight gaps

Thanks for your work Dale!

According to Raily, it still is not a perfect match, it should work. Trouble is, there is still some snaking (s-curves), which shivers me scared...

yes there is a very small amount of error (half a degree if I recall) which you will have to deal with - I think it be OK if you distribute the error evenly. A little bit of filing may also help

Hi all,
Great job lads!!!!

IMVHO,there are only a few items on needed for K-track,2205 and any points,Kraus Klappen(4),2 K-track screws, track spikes, rail joiners, period. And one can always use 2-rail points and build your own,...

You can't avoid some s-curves when you connect parallel tracks. As you are planning to use the wide degree turnouts 22715/22716 you should be in the clear. The risk of trouble is higher if you used the narrower 22º30' ones, but that would still work I should think, unless Märklin has made some reservations against it.

However, why consider a double slip crossing between two parallel tracks or are you pre-planning for a third or even more parallel tracks?

Benny - Outsider and MFDWPL

I'm planning my main station, based on this:
http://medienpdb.maerklin.de/mm...ads/MM_0406_Download.pdf, page 6, and using only long turnouts.

It's an interesting plan, allowing for a single two-way line and includes a nice shunting yard. I'm planning it for 2-m long trains.

It's a nice thing to do in the hotel, in the evening, when I'm away from actual layout work...

Great station plan.
I see the need for double slip turnouts.
It will take some space when only using slim line turnouts.

Looking forward to see your progress.

Thanks, Lutz.

I was already investigating the possibility of doing some surgery in the switches indeed. Either way, I'll be getting back to this issu later on, since now I'm doing some work in the Bw area.

In the future, I'll update this thread with the results of my endeavours.

Absolutely Walter. I have recently sent you an email asking for a quotation, to which you replied promptly, and in the meanwhile I have already noticed that you have the crossing I need, and I will be ordering one soon, no doubt!

I am beginning to wonder, if I should have started with K-tracks instead of the (forever?) incomplete series C-tracks! [B)]

Nah, I guess not. C-tracks are better for floor layouts. That's what I have. (Sigh)

Hi,

I bought two items from Walter: the crossing to make a large radii hosenträger with four wide K turnouts and one large radii 3-way switch. My impressions are vey positive on the quality of the build and looks but I haven't really tested them, since I haven't finished laying them on the main station area where they will reside.

The 3 way switch comes complete with the required wires to connect to the relays it will need. It's a quite ingenious method to ensure contact and is ilustrated above.
