No problems at all, Ordered 2 5 Pole Rotors, 2 Magnets, 2 ENd Plates, One ESU MFX Decoder programmed to F7 Sounds. ALso a DCC 8 pin socket. Put the Loco Wires to the Socket and plugged in hte Decoder and away it went. It is so easy a blind man and a seeing eye dog could do it. I will dig out the part numbers and send. I like to alter things, make things work after my own theories (maybe not always the best?)
Would it be, from a user's point of view, better to install the pick-up shoe as close to the center as possible (which means under a B-unit bogie), to have a close to equal stopping distance e.g. in front of signals, regardless of the travelling direction?
I presume that the unpowered A-unit bogie and the B-unit bogies are identical? |

Yep, if you use these contact tracks with these small nipples at the center rail (e.g. # 2299, sorry, don't kno the respective # for C tracks), it's some advantage. Also when the train enters a semaphore control sections. However, I have abandoned this type of contact tracks from my layout. Not reliable enough in the long run. Everything controled now by small magnets on the locos and reed relays on the tracks, and therefore independet of the position of the pick-up shoe. That's what I am trying, too. BTW in my theoretical physics lessons many years ago I have been told that reality (such as it is) is only a very mediocrate implementation of physical laws, so it may be improved. I don't know whether this is generally true, but it certainly applies to a few mrr features such as pick-up shoes and contact tracks. Hans Martin

So true John Anyway, I will be careful not to stray to far off the beaten track in DC - both geografically speaking and MRR-wise. For the latter the plan is to limit myself to the Challenger, the Veranda Gas Turbine (may require a new mortgage  ), and a few other indispensible UP locos like a shunter and an E7 consist. City-wise I'm always careful in DC and this time I will basically be confined to the hotel for the entire stay... |

OHH! I have,nt seen that UP locomotive earlier. It's just graet[:p]. That painter must really be a proffesional. By the way - I have heard that in the 70's you could leave your worn Märklin-locomotive to your local dealer, and he would send it to the Märklin-factory for overhaul and repainting. Comes back almost like new. Anywhane know if that story is true? |
