Hi all I have managed to finally purchase a 7051 from ebay.de. It arrived on Wednesday and after some sorting of plugs and a reference to Chris Vella's post on what wires go where, I was able to get the thing to work fully. However I am now trying to date it and not having much luck. I cannot find any date on the box at all. The box itself is yellow in colour. Maybe some one will be able to tell me from that how old it might be. According to Koll the crane can be anything from 1956 - 1978. I was hoping to narrow it a bit further than that. Oh on ebay at the same time as mine was one with a grabber. I can't seem to see any mention of one of those at all. It went for around £160 Can anyone tell me more about that one as well please. |

Hello
If the box is yellow, I guess you probably bought a crane issued in the 60's. |

The fabric covered wires for the magnet would suggest 50's to early 60's, I don't know exactly when they changed to plastic coated wires. Nice find |

DT thanks - so with the fabric wires and the yellow box it is looking like an early 60s.
Unless anyone knows different.............. |

I think the grabber is an after market product, not produced by Marklin, which works with the 7051. I don't have one, but wouldn't mind getting one or two some time - I have 2 7051 cranes. They come up on ebay from time to time.

Hi Dale Thanks for the link - I did know about the number on the flap. However the inner flaps on this box appear well stuck down and I don't want to ruin the box by forcing them up to look for a date.
Bigdaddy - that would be why I couldn't find any reference in M catalogs then. |

The one I have looks exactly like the one pictured here. It is from the 1960's.
When I first saw the crane in action I really went wild. Very early childhood memory for me. I spent hours loading all sorts of metal screws, nails, and steel washers into my Marklin gondola cars. Hours of fun.
Damn, Marklin makes great stuff that is classic forever.

Hi Mike, I should have said, that crane is still on my "wish list." Hopefully, get to see it in action one day. Ian.

hennabm, I recognize this crane, same color, same fabric wires, same magnet, same yellow box ... have had it for 45 years. On the inner narrow flap of the upper part of the box (it's not glued, just carefully lift the flap away from the reinforced cardboard top ...) it is marked : 69 751 TM 05 66 sw... means the date is : May 1966Nifty eBay guide here on dating Märklin Trains : Dating Marklin TrainsHope it helps, Yum |

Yum thank you for the guidance - I have done as suggested and find the following - 69 751 TA 0963 nlSo it appears the box and (hopefully) the crane come from Sept 63. Thank you again |

The second crane - 69 751 M 274 sw - February 1974.

steventrain, According to this site : http://marklinguide.servehttp.com/marklinguide.nsf/1/351ba17b351c7074852567ab0008b898... seems the last two letters are related to printing companies, not countries ... quote: " " The last two characters seem to indicate the name of the printing company. Here are the names that I have so far: au - Aumüller Druck KG in Regensburg br - Bruckmann KG, Munich dk - Druckkommunikation, München fi - J Fink, Ostfildern fd - Fischer-Druck, Aichelberg ho - Hoffmann Druck, Nürnberg kl - Druckerei Ernst Klett, Stuttgart kr - Körner Rotationsdruck, Sindelfingen oe - Oehler Offset, Fellbach ru - Rung Druck, Göppingen (Company apparently went bankrupt in 2010) Sc - Schatt, Stuttgart sr - Schnitzer Druck GmbH, Korb st - Stürtz AG, Würzburg th - Thiemig AG, Munich wd - Westermann Druck, Braunschweig wf - Wenschow Franzis-Druck, München ... So be it, but I would also like to know what "nl" and "sw" mean though ... Yum PS: will update this post with any/all new info gathered, stay tuned ... Edited by user 03 May 2011 22:40:49(UTC)

Yum as both have the WIAD in the title one suspects it may well be a makers name (unless someone knows different). Google gives no clues to what or who Wiad is. I have seen the dutch one advertised before with a joy stick. I'm sure the joystick is none M* as well as the grabber. |

Thanks hgk
looks like you have located one source of supplier for the grabber. It does appear to be a Dutch firm.
Frankie - does your look the same as the Wiad one or is it different somehow? |

Yum... Fantastic set up. I almost fell off my chair laughing when the crain started to move down the line. My crane never did that. When can I book a flight to France and play with your crane setup? Regards, Paul

Paul, Like I wrote above, this isn't my crane ... but if you look at the footer of that video, you will see that I am after the author to get more info on how he did it. I fully intend to build something similar one day ! Yum |
