I would not make a bank transfer without hearing from them. If you have a credit card, would it then be an option to just sign up again using the form on https://www.maerklin.de/de/clubs/anmeldung.html ? (I assume they still accept credit cards, at least they did when I signed up last year - good thing about doing it this way, is that they won't deduct any amount from your card until they have processed your request) ^__^ MikeK |

It might be worth trying insider-club@maerklin.comThis is the address given in the current Insider News. Sometimes it takes weeks until they react. |

I sent my details, including credit card number, via the german page for Insider club membership, sometime in February. After about a month I got an envelope with a password to the webpage (that isn't valid - no such member). No debit has been made to my card and no forms for the Insider models have come. Märklin doesn't need my cash, it seems...

They'll take your cash - sooner or later. Don't wait too long inquiring for the insider order forms. |

Subscribing to Insider-Club , for French speaking people is a nightmare.... we don't have clear & simple information about the process, what to do, how it goes, how to pay, when to pay....etc...etc... Marklin website is not fully translated in French. Only a part of the website is translated. Is there somewhere the phone number of Marklin Switzerland ? Have we to go on the German part of the website to find it ?

Hi guys
Please offer your advise and experience. I assume that insider membership coinside with the calender year. Thus it make no sence to join now, better to do it very early in the new year, correct?

Just had a look at my credit card account. What the....????? I have been charged by GEBR. MAERKLIN & CIE. GMBGOEPPINGEN DE twice . One amount for US $89 and on the same day an amount US $109 . It seems that I have been charged the old subscription rate as well as the new rate . Since I don't have Marklin's German email address, I will have to send them a snail mail asking what the #@%*& is going on. Anybody else been charged two amounts? |

Maybe you have been charged for mine for this year, as I'm still waiting for it to appear on my Credit Card! Maybe they have charged for a previous year, and have finally caught up. The Insider Club is still to charge me for last year's membership, let alone this year's.

That's what I thought, too. The reference text on the credit card bill could make this clear (if it says "Membership dues 2009" or something to that effect and not just "invoice number 40123456"). Better ask Märklin before requesting a refund from the CC company. |

hi Guys I can give some ligth on this I seems that a lot of people where not charged for their 2009 membership including myself with the change from usa admin to germany and as they have gone through the systems they have found this so the they are having to charge us for the last twelve months that should have been in my case charged may 2009 and this years may 2010 for the next years so. if you go back over your credit card statements for 12 months you will probally find that you have not been charged for last years so there charge is correct and you have enjoyed your membership for 2009 and now have to pay for it If you are having any problems just ring them on 0049 7161608213 and when they answer just ask to speak in english and she will just drop into english and answer all the issues. Talking as a dealer they have made big changes and they are far more proactive in solving issues that in the past as they got right back to their roots and with considerable investments in new plant and the recent wholesale revamp they are taking on board a lot of what we all say on here and want to make things happen and the biggest thing we have seen is that they have so many younger people coming on board to work for the company with all the electronics and cad design etc and with them comes drive and energy. regards old toot |

Hi Henrix thats why I said what I said ,what they faced in feb of 2009 and now is poles apart they have condensed, regrouped and with plutas guidance refocused and are now moving forward, the electronics industry is a fast moving ever changing one and the digital side of marklin is bringing the need to have on board faster and quicker means and people to operate as a company, and detail is the name of the game hence new cad programmes, new plant and new warehousing systems to design build and deliver the product better and faster to the dealers and customers regards bryan old toot |

Greetings. With all respect, why do you guys pay this ridiculous price for the club membership? I like Marklin and was a member of the Insider Club for a long time. When they went to (US) $85.00 a few years ago, I decided enough was enough. Plus it sounds like they still don't have the membership renewal and new subscription process working smoothly. While I had my insider membership in 2007 I enjoyed it. The price wasn't bad but the struggle to get my membership going, a year and a half of emails phone calls and waiting, was not. 2008 and 2009 were too shaky for marklin and I did not trust that I would get my subscription. 2010 has been a much better year for marklin so maybe in 2011 I'll sign up again but if I fail to get anything I'll just let it go. As far as the Insider Locos its not impossible to get them on ebay. |

I became a member about 2 years ago. I paid for the first annual subscription and the insider car arrived almost a year after I joined. Since then, for about nine months of the second year, Marklin continued to send me the magazines etc, but did not request payment.
Eventually, they contacted me and asked for the subscription for May 2009 - April 2010. I offered to pay via Visa or Mastercard, but they told me that they could not accept these because of the financial situation they were in.
Then, they asked for the 2010 - 2011 subscription. I am prepared to pay both, but they seem to be making it very difficult for me.
My UK bank, Lloyds say that they will charge me £20 to convert the sum into Euros and send it to Marklin's bank. This I am not prepared to accept.
Then Marklin came back to me and said that they had now solved their problems and could accept either Visa or Mastercard. So, I immediately sent off my details and requested that they debit my card. about a month later, they contacted me and said that they could not accept Visa or Mastercard.
Now I do not know what their game is. I am still willing to pay by card. IS there any chance that Marklin might get their act into gear?

Hmm.. how long ago is it that they rejected your payment by Visa? - I got my renewal request a few weeks ago, stating my (Visa) card info that I used a year ago when trying to join the Insider club, and asking me to tell them if the information had changed since last year - otherwise they would just deduct the Insider fee from my card... But this is directly from Germany, have you been talking to them directly or trough a local "branch" if such a thing exists? |

hi guys I just can't understand why you are having all these problems to get your payment to them we have setup a special link for doing this on our website and all our Nz customers and i know others as well use it and it works and as I have said before ANY of you can log in via our www toottoot.co.nz website (and is right in the centre of the opening page)and use it and it doesn't mean that insider stuff has to come through us but it can and with some of the talk from you it seems to me that you would get it quicker from us in Nz than many of you have to wait to get the from where you getfrom now, as we also operate a Post office and we have very good delivery from our shop i.e. 4 days to london etc They have been accepting visa/mastercard for the last four years No Problem I am talking personally and it normally takes about 6 weeks to show up on my statement so far as the price for 109 us you still get 6 marklin mags a year 6 insider mags a year 1 insider wagon 1 full big thick catalogue two dvd of marklin year Plus access to the exclusive insider models only made for insiders plus above all kept up to date with what is happening direct from marklin themselves so if we can help you in any way just email us regards from the earthquake zone and we now have a new slogan "Christchurch Rocks" old toot |

Hi Bryan. I gave up the Insider Club a few years ago because of problems with the subscription and also I can get the Magazine on its own if I want and then models can also be bought via my dealer who seems to be able to supply without any forms etc. My view would be just to produce a magazine and forget about Insiders and produce an annual loco that everybody can buy. Marklin need to increase sales and sell everything they make to everybody. Most (not all) who join Insider type clubs do so because it makes them feel important. Marklin want to tell the world what is new and what is happening and that way they will sell more. Why not enclose a coupon with all starter sets to allow delivery of the Magazine free for a year. This would give new people to the hobby the urge to continue to buy from Marklin.
Keep well and safe over there

hi david wow thats another aftershock the whole house just shook and we dive under the door frame again we are all getting a bit light headed as the constant motion upsets ones middle ear my daugther reckons another 4.3 at least but to get back to insider the simple truth is they are selling everything as fast as they can make it in fact they have even being running double shifts the 150 story really worked for them They are now producing a monthly loco which they promote and its is working well but this takes time to train your customers to come looking for this months specials, and also we as retailers have to upskill, present the natural addon's you know simple expect to sell a customer more that the one item they came for I am always amazing when I ask " is there anything else I can sell you " how many times because it is there in front them they will pickup that extra item but thats what comes of working for Dick smith for 15 years add ons become habit The insider concept is aimed at the collector market but is now being broadened to a wider market in an effort to comunicate to a wider customer group. Microsoft are masters at sending out promotion material before the product every gets near the shop floor often 3 months before they known it will be delivered and it really builds demand so when they arrive the customers are ready to buy man my daugther is getting good she was right it was another 4.3 shake and was just across the paddock from the 4.50 a 7.10 this morning 6 right under rolleston township and the ground movement was 78.1mm of the edge of town but in the city of the town 574.4mm !!!! where all the buildings have been falling apart as they are built on a basin of sand/gravel and water so really moving well im off to bed and we shall see if we get some sleep tonight regards old toot |

Hi Bryan. Hang on in there my friend. Regarding add ons to sales, I was able to get my local Roco dealer to make sure his staff sold a lighting unit with every coach they sold (and then have a go at some Preisers to go in the coach) Didnt always work but about 50% of customers went for the lighting units and some of the rest came back later to get them. If you have a demo then have lights in the coach along with passengers.
dave PS dont forget the Marklin pickup set to go with the lighting unit lol |

Hi Bryan,
Good to hear you guys are still rocking but OK. I was an insider member a few years ago but let it lapse. With your great salesmanship you have probably convinced me to rejoin. Can I do that on your website or does it only work for renewals. For obvious reasons I would not have any difficulty using you as my rep.
BTW- I am sure the All Blacks will make the people of Christchurch feel good tonight-just such a pity they will not win ( I can hope). As long as it is a game like the one last week of fast running rugby and it allows you guys to ignore the shaking for a little while that will be good.
Hang in there mate.
Cheers

Bryan,
Thanks for your reply regarding your website.
You were spot on about Saturday night. I was there and the Wallabies were on top for most of the match ,just to prove they could win ,and then let the All Blacks power over them , to help the spirits of the people of Christchurch after such a tough week . Just kidding ,we need to learn how to win in tough situations and once that happens with a young side who knows.
The footage of the building coming down does take away confidence in structures .Having visited Christchurch about 10 years ago and seen some of your heritage buildings I hope that not too many of them have to be demolished.I think the looks on the faces of the people watching shows how hard the last week must have been for all of you in Christchurch . Hopefully it seems the aftershocks may be declining in frequency and strenght which may allow you to get back to some degree of normality.
Cheers
Murray

As a conclusion to my rant earlier this past week (on a different topic thread) - today I have received the remainder of 2010 Insider/Märklin Magazine packages 3,4,5 and 6 and all application forms for special wagons and loks for 2010. To achieve this has been a major exercise in patience, e-mails and night time phone calls from this side of the Globe to the Insider Office over a 9 month period. At one time recently I had thought about throwing the whole "Insider Club" thing away, and by the threads that I have read on this website - I would not have been alone. However all is OK for time being, they just need to get my mailing address correct - and I hope 2011 will be 'plain sailing' My thanks must also go to Brian and Dion Stephenson at "Toottoot" in Christchurch, these two people have brought the purchase and marketing of Märklin marchandise in New Zealand into the 21st Century. Never before in the previous 25 years has Ndw Zealand been so well served by a pair of dedicated enthusiasts, who are now just about to embark on a new retail venture - which I hope could eventuate in the accolade of a "Shop in Shop" endorsement.

I'm pretty surprised at how expensive Insider-club membership is, how can strike at getting young creditors ambition to become interested in model trains My personal opinion are that membership like this should be free! The model train business needs to start understand that the younger generation is on the Web to learn and get information and fun stuff. To lock the information that I think would be classify as advertising is not the right way Instead of making product catalogs each year for a huge of money, they should spend this money to build a better free interactive web site to get attention. This is also similar to model clubs that are sitting in the basement and wonder where the younger generation are today. My recommendation for some Swedish model clubs is trying to do something different to get younger generation attention. Build a similar mobile model railway that can be showing inside shopping center and easily can moved to advertising your club Check out this beautiful model railway Gleng Modelljernbaneklubb bygger anlegg for Lions Sarpsborg 2007/2008 Edited by user 05 November 2010 16:19:20(UTC)

The picture depicts the true state of our wonderful hobby. No children in sight, and a very old uninterested person! It seems that the hobby relies on us who are stuck in the middle. I wonder what would happen to MRR when we get a little bit older.

I remember when I would fly into Rhein Mein AB in Germany and have a few days layover, several of us would take the train into Frankfurt and do a little sightseeing. In the concourse of the Frankfurt Bahnhoff, there was a very large train layout. I don't rember if it was 2 or 3 rail display, but there were 6-8 transformers inside the case. You would put a Deutsche Mark into one of the 6-8 slots to activate the train. Naturally, I would spend some DM's there and make all the trains operate then suddenly the childres would just appear out of nowhere. This was in the 80's and 90's. I wonder if other train stations throughout Germany had these dislays. Robert Edited by user 08 November 2010 03:39:47(UTC)

Robert Hi Robert, yes I remember that layout too. I know I dropped a few marks in it. I was in Frankfurt many times as a Lufthansa employee as our training school was just south of the Airport in Seeheim (just south of Darmstadt on the A5).Cheers, Peter

Now I see young children, and young adults/fathers enjoying the trains! I hope that this trend will continue.

I know of German families that have/had modelrailroading as a family hobby. For instance, dad and son would do wiring and mom and sis would do scenery, etc. I guess this sounds a bit old-fashioned and a little sexist but the lady I know who is the family mother said they loved it! It is a great family hobby too! Cheers, Peter

I just received a letter from the Insider Club af Märklin; they couldn't debit my creditcard. I got a new card 2 month ago, I send an e-mail to them, given most of card details, except the onces indentical to privious card, due to security, and explained it. They never replyed to my mail. It would have been nice if they read the mail, and told me if there was a problem. I will try to call the Insider Club tomorrow. Actualy I feel I doubts as if I should renew at all, maybe they just want German menbers. |
