Hi,

the ECoS 2 keyboard makes a good impression on me.
Especially the signals.
They look realistic.
I find the looking of the ECoS keyboard better than that of the CS2.

That was only Stephan's opinion, based on his reading of the ESU website. Better to wait until someone (Tom?) has their hands on a real unit and can provide us with a report based on real world experience.

In germany the ecos2 is out. With problems with the touchscreen.

".... nach dem booten geht der Touchscreen nicht

Ich also das Teil unter den Arm und zurück zu meinem Dealer.
Der packt die nächste ECOS 2 aus, gleiches Problem.

Er ruft bei ESU an, und die wissen Rat:

Auf Seite 36 der Anleitung steht wie man den Touchscreen kalibriert!

Nach der Kalibrierung läuft alles bestens".

hello,

take a look on this state of the art displayLOL LOL LOL:

UserPostedImage

the high definition loc pictures are amazing LOL LOL

as I see the display has still poor quality as I saw on prototype. Clear, to simplify software development for old and new "old" EcoS they have to maintain the dot matrix display similar to b/w version of old EcoS, only in color.

Dot matrix displays are anyway an obsolete tecnology.

its a shame the factory did not calibrate the touch screen or is this something you have to do every time you boot up? But sounds like an easy fix

I suspect that ESU has underplayed the amount of units which they have supplied to the dealers. BigGrin My unit was shipped today (and still at the old price). I think all the people that did pre-ordered will be receiving their units within the next week or two.

From reading the ECoS 50200 manual it appears to be more complicated (not as user friendly )than the CS2. It seems to be able to do a few extra things like Ecos Sniffer and RailCom. I think you still have to buy a lokprogramer in order to upload sounds to a decoderUnsure

Tom have you had a chance to use it yet?

Hello Antonios.

Yes my ecos works,
I read a lot of locos with fmx and the symbols were very fine.

From friday I will sit down and try things out and
I need to read the manual thoroughly.

Could we have somewhere some unbiased comparison between CS2, ECoS 50200 and other second generation controllers? I will be probably in the market to substitute my CS1 sometime this year.

Hi Mario. Unbiased might not be possible as I dont thnk anybody will own and use both.
My well Known view is go for the CS2 where you should always be able to run Marklin locos with any new decoders they may use. I understand that the ECOS screen is not as good as the CS2.
Anybody who owns an ECOS will tell you to buy it and it may well be good. I only know that the CS2 is excellent and after all is made by Marklin for Marklin users.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Hello Darrin and David.

I agree with you. I have seen in Stummis Modellbahforum when somebody wanted (or tried)
to write a test of ECoS 2. He gave up, because so many people wanted to emphasize ST2 as
the better product.

You might have different reasons to prefere one of them. Each of them has some plus and some minus.

It has been a big problem for ESU that the first Feedback Modul does not work. You must just put in one
without any connections. The users complain a lot of times, how much esu tried to find a solution we
don't know but they will probably fix it this year.

Today it was a new SW version 3.1.1 and some small bugs should be fixed.

That is a big bug and an expensive work around to have to add another s88 to make it work. Cursing

Sounds like they need to subtract one for there feedback object array. Should be a quick programming fix. but I cant believe this was not found sooner.Confused

MRR is only a hobby, we spend money for something useless only for pleasure, inevitably there is a huge part of emotional in what we do & what we say...

As for Ecos colour & CS2 , if one is better than the other one...So what ?
( Globally, one clearly looks better than the other one)

Aren't we wise enough and able to make difference between facts and personnal feelings or preferences ?
My house surely is not the most confortable of the area, my car is not the best car of the market, my clothes are not the most fashionable, etc...but I'm still able to understand & explain my own choices. All of them are the result of both objective process and subjective process.

Honestly, the next door neighbours has a much nicer car than mine. So what ?
(but he doesn't play with miniature trains Tongue )

BTW I don't think we can talk about Ecos vs CS2 as we used to talk about Mac & PC

I am very interested in the ECOS 50200. I currently have small DC system with 13 locos - all DCC. My control method is the trix mobile station and a connector box and a 18 VA transformer. I only run 3-4 locos at a time, although i tested my system and it can run 5.

My question is, if I were to buy the ECOS 50200, what additional items do i need? Can I use the transformer and connector box that I have? Also, is the ECOS 50200 wireless?

You don't need anything additionally but the ECOS 2.

You can use your old mobile station as an extra controlbox connected to the ECOS using a converter cable. The old transformer can be used for something else, there is a new transformer with the ECOS.

-no, the new ECOS is not wireless. As I understand ESU is comming with a wireless hand control some time in the future.
I just need space, money and time - That's all

I like my handheld controller very much. Not too big and not too small.

1) You could want the ECoS to transmit the same speed-steps to your ECoRa.
... If you use 28 steps you don't want 126 steps on the ECoRa. I think it will be an update.
... No update to remove bugs was necessary.
2) You can not see the icons for light and sounds on the ECoRa, this device is of course smaller.

But it works very well.

It is easy to install. The module in the bottom of the picture belongs to the ECoS.
The product ESU 50111 is what you need.
For a second device ESU 50112 is without this module.

How can a "Receiver" be "Duplex". I real wish the technical writing would undergo some quality checking.

Anyway..

Q Does anyone know if this works with a non-reloaded 60212?

Q Re the shift key.. Is it sticky or do I have to press it with one hand (left) and use the other (right) to actually press the number ?

You mean the Ecos RadioControl? The answer is no, the CS1 must be at v3.0 for it to be able to support the Ecos RadioControl. I do hope to get one at some time soon.

I have read a test report of Ecos Control radio. I don't remember wether the item or the instruction manual, one was only in German...(both may be ?)
How it is today ?

3 or 4 years ago ESU has been making the command Dynamis DCC for Bachman. With its central screen + assymetrical throttle Dynamis was an evoluton of MS 1 with an infra red link to the booster.
Ecos Radio control has the same look as Dynamis.
see here:

It's like a Dynamis on which they have replaced infra-red by radio link,Wink added few modifications to the firmware to make it Ecos-compatible .
Now they sell it 200/250 Euro ( they almost have invented a business model ! Wink It reminds me another story...Wink )

The English version of the RadioControl manual can be downloaded from the ESU website.
