Would someone know the part number for the Marklin flat spoon shape plastic uncoupler.

Thanks

Diesel

EDIT 29-6-2007. Just in case someone wants the part number before reading the full thread on this fascinating subject

Finally the mystery is solved: It arrived today.
Correct part number is 291610
It is called Entkuppler.
Price 1 Euro - a great investment.
Bart was correct with this info. Thanks

I have a secret copy of the Marklin Marketing Manual in English.
Page 18.
In producing plastic uncoupler sticks, staff and dealers must do everything in their power to dissuade users from using substitutes, like ice cream sticks. To that end, the uncoupler stick is to be included in every packet of 7203 and 7205 couplers.
The future viability of the company rests on production and sales of this item.

Marklin in-house email dated 13/05/2007 to Department Head at Goppingen (from secret sources). "It has been discovered that many Marklin dealers do not know about the uncoupler stick. Please arrange topic in marklin-users.net regarding this item, to create promotion opportunity."
Thanks.
regards
Kimball

Great info, Kimball, but I'm afraid you had the old manual.
In an earlier thread, Lutz has announced that the new version of the manual contains a detailed procedure how to send uncoupler sticks back for an upgrade. Can be done in Göppingen only.

Diesel, the obviour reason why nobody has been able to provide you with the part number is that you inadvertenly (I am sure) omitted to specify whether it was for Analog or Digital use. I have also been lead to belive the newer digital versions tend to exhibit the common mfx Alzheimer's syndrome, especiall when used in the 6021 control environment.

You can now get mfx uncoupler sticks. They recognise the coaches etc to be uncoupled and of course it saves having to enter an address manually.
Marklin are now marketing a new flavour of ice cream (smoke oil special) and the sticks can be used as described by Adrian, not yet able to be hooked up to your computer until updated. Miss 7 has been selected to try the new ice cream product.

Nev: there is a new version soon to be released which will allow both left and right hand use. Somebody said there was a track part that can be inserted into the layout and used for uncoupling but who would believe that was possible...what an imagination.

Hello Bart.

I can reweal how the upgrade is don.
The part of the uncoupler that goes under the coupling is bendt 90 degres from the handel forming an L shap, this is don to ensure aksesability betwen rows of cars in a yard, where the tarcks are placed quiet close.
And as you mentioned the upgrade it self should only be done by profesional in Göppingen. wink

Philip.

Let's keep it simple.

[serious mode on]
could well be 291610.
In the parts list, there is one item "Entkuppler", which is
291610 for approx. 1 Euro.
Someone may want to try and order. Could turn out to be a small
part of a Telex coupler as well, but for 1 Eur, we would have a mystery solved.

[standard mode on]
291610 means 29xxx series, which is the mfx/starter version.
This special spoon starter set has a very attractive set price.
You'll see it ripped on Ebay: the bend end and the straight end sold separately,
without original carton.

This upgrade includes a gps location chip, so one can find it when lost in the chaos of the train room. I just found mine yesterday. It had been missing for months.

Sadly, I found no cache of beer nor ice cream next to it.

Now, this topic was fun to read... biggrin

Seems like you guys were having fun, and diesel actually also got a valid answer inbetween too...

Sometimes I am proud of the community, these are the kind of deviations that are harmless and fun to read while the original issue is solved too... Smile

For 1 Euro, I hope it's the right number Bart gave... Seems very cheap for a Märklin item, though...

And diesel, please tell us which of the analog/digital/mfx/left-/righthanded/upgraded versions you got... biggrin

Why don't we produce a series of Marklin-users.net uncoupler sticks???? The wagon was too hard, but the uncoupler sticks are much more manageable...

What's the duty on uncoupler sticks?? Is it less for left handed ones? I can eat all the ice cream before we send them off to Europe... With the ice cream removed would they be second-hand goods and not subject to import taxes???

Well done Adrian. I did say the wagon could not be done...but uncoupler sticks..now that is possible. They could be made as two in one ie: left handed at one end and right at the other end.
Also in two different colours..one for insiders and one for outsiders and a smaller one for the ladies.
What we need now is a logo and the dimensions of Adrians ice cream stick in order that special packing can be obtained.
Although I still think a tie is a good idea.

With some adjustment an uncoupler stick could easily become a tie clip too... Keeps the tie away from the moving locos and can be found quickly when some tricky uncoupling work is needed... [^][^]

And here is the real genius of the idea.. Each country produces their own stick with a country name and flag.. Juhan needs to licence a rep from each country to produce the sticks according to an agreed style.. It is the solution to the logistics problem of the wagons.. We can then swap sticks between countries to collect the whole set.. Let's face it, you should not uncouple a Swiss wagon using an Australia edition Marklin-users.net uncoupler stick...

We won't get into Koll's guide as they are not made by Marklin, but we will still have lots of fun.. [^][^][^]

Maybe one problem: Do you even get ice creams in Sweden and Norway?? [:I]

..... Maybe one problem: Do you even get ice creams in Sweden and Norway?? [:I]

All this talking about ice cream makes me think of a phrase we used to "scream" as kids even before we learned English (we probably didn't even know the meaning):

Ice cream - you scream - everybody scream!

I don't remember from where it originates.

BTW In Denmark we get excellent ice creams in all varieties you can think of - except that particular one where you chop off a piece just outside your door. biggrin
Greenland, however, is quite another story wink

Oh we all know about Danish Ice Cream down here... We have a number of Royal Copenhagen Ice Cream outlets all over Australia... It is just about the most expensive ice cream that you can buy - but it does not come on a stick that you can use for uncoupling..

Right, Adrian. But you just bought a ticket to lemon hill biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

However - with no provisions for a 300-pages manual nor an internet update option
I definitely won't buy any of your funny uncoupler stuff ... [xx(]

"I scream,
You scream,
We all scream for
Ice-cream"

My parents sang that in my youth in the late 60's...

Royal Copenhagen Ice Cream is rather good though...

My apology was because I didn't realize that you really weren't a beer drinker...confused and you call yourself Australian...
Cheers,
Damon

John : couplers can be updated but must be sent to M. After the update you can do it yourself by putting them in the fridge for 24 hours.

Adrian : Good idea for the tie clip/uncoupler this would involve an extra part for the clip but maybe this could be sourced in outer mongolia where there is a small factory producing the rear wheel sets for coaches.

Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Except that Royal Copenhagen Ice Cream has nothing to do with Denmark whatsoever wink
Up here Royal Copenhagen is a brand of porcelain - not recommended for use as uncoupler though biggrin

But I am a Bundy drinker... That definitely makes me Australian! biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Truth is that beer gives me a headache - even after a few sips... I expect it is an allergy.. The only time it has never happened was when I was on a tour of the XXXX brewery (in the late '70s) and they served us a very very cold beer from the factory tap.. I have often suspected that the in house beer has no preservatives unlike the bottled beer.. [xx(][xx(]
