The mDT/3 (DecoderTool) "shows" an option for "Firmware download check", however the versions now available to the CS2 do not show up.

"Es sind keine Updates verfueger"
"There are no updates available"

Note: check done with mLD/3(60976) and mSD/3(60972) - both currently at 3.0.0.28 - it may be different for others.

I would appreciate a better translation of ...

"Feature: Features of the mobile crane on compiler switches possible"

I think the reset could also be improved on.

I advise mSD/3 users to NOT perform this update, at least not the 3.0.1.0 (final) step
The mLD/3 does not appear to have the same stuff up.
Note: experience to date is limited to the 6097x mSD/3s - it is possible that the 6098x decoders may have sidestepped this bug.
I welcome any comments, either way, to substantiate this.

There is evidence to suggest that this update resets the decoders "Item number" from its 6097x/8x number to "12345"
This "Item number" may be viewed on the "Information" tab when looking at the mFX CVs

While this does not appear to affect the actual operation of the decoder, it makes subsequent "configuration" update, icon(fds)/sound(snd) impossible.

As if all the bugs in the mDT/3 weren't enough, this makes even the available workarounds - unworkable.

I await Marklins reply on how this may be recovered.
It may be possible that a generic (60975 or 60985) may be able to be reinstated, as the firmware also validates against the "Decoder Part Number" (263819)
This should be enough, although you may loose that bit of audit history as to the item being a 60975/6/7/8 or 9.
Whether Marklin will do this , rather than insist the decoder be returned for replacement, is a moot point.

With the MSD is was possible to set the number there, too. I don't have an MSD/3 to try it, but I assume it also allows changing the number.

With MSD changing this number to e.g. the loco ref. number will prevent decoder upgrades - until you change it back.

Tom

I acknowledge that the Item Number field appears as an editable field, however I have not been able to get this to "stick" in my situation.

FYI,

It may be a streach to say that the original issue was fixed.

However, Marklin have provided a recent update to the CS2 (to v4.1.2(3) ) which certainly allows the decoders (mSD/3 that were showing item number = 12345 to now show 6097x) to be recognised and allow selection of updates updated (FDS firmware).

This "fix" also includes the mDT/3 decoder tool software now being able to do complete transfers and updates without workarounds.

NOTE: If a file is transferred from the mDT/3 to the CS2 (with a "DT_" prefix to the file names), trying to use the onboard CS2 update still stumbles over the "Info or Flash File for member 1 is missing" message because the metadata in the .html file still refers to a file name WITHOUT the "DT_" prefix.

I had a very strange behavior with decoder firmware update,

First I did the latest CS2 update for 4.1.2 (3)

Then I update a locomotive that has a mSD3 decoder with firmware 3.0.1.0

The screen lock after testing some function button so I was necessary to kill the power to get reboot, when reboot was done it locked after some minutes again. I did reboot several times before try remove mSD3 engine and then boot up without.

Then everything works like normal Huh

I may have had something similar....

Can you confirm I understand your symptoms correctly ..
- a Lok(Engine) with a mSD/3 update to 3.0.1.0 causes the CS2 to lock up
- without the Lok(engine) on the layout, the CS2 does not lock up

Does your CS2 lockup if the engine has not been sent any commands - just sitting on the layout with power
Exactly how long after rebooting the CS2, and with the engine on the layaout, does the lockup occur
was your mSD/3 updated before the CS2 update to 4.1.2(3) ? (i.e between 18May and 25May) ?
