Rhätische Bahn, Switzerland, day 2

Updated 28.04.2013

In October 2006 my wife and I were invited by some good friends in Switzerland.  We had some interesting train trips, over four days.
Here are some of our impressions from the trips.

Day 1
Winterthur - Guarda

Day 2
Guarda - Scuol-Tarasp - Guarda

Walking down to the station, as the post bus did not depart for our train.  It was very steep.

Our train is approaching the station.  Ge 4/4 II 627

Shot through the train window on the way to Scuol-Tarasp:

The lift to the mountain top, close to the railway station:

Going up towards the top.  Notice the road close to the lift mast.  A later photo is shot to the right of that mast.

Another shot from the lift

We are ready to depart from the top on our trottinéts.  Very funny and fast, even without an engine.  The brakes were good, if you managed to distribute the weight properly while braking.  Notice the girls (number 1, 4 and 5 from left) matching jackets and helmets.  The boys were light brown, dark red and blue (me).

From the 8,3 km long track down to the station

My wife at a good pace down the curvy road

After passing the village Ftan, the upper route:

To the right of the previous mentioned lift mast.  The left hand 180 degree curve (hairpin) down there was tricky.

Our track.  We followed the blue line.  In Ftan we followed the hand drawn upper route.  The above photo is shot from where the blue line crosses the lift.

Connecting to our train, to return to Guarda

We finished the day with a nice dinner and a birthday party.  Lucky there were no fire detector above the pan.

Day 3
Guarda - Samedan - Poschiavo - Pontresina - Guarda, with the Bernina Express

Day 4
Return from Guarda to Winterthur
