Hello!

I have an old transformator 6177, serial 201775.
I suppose it is around 30 years old.

Anyway I had a fault on the trafo and measured it to be a broken wire in the live terminals. The problem is fixed, but I am still wondering what the part on the picture is and what the purpose of the part are.

Can anyone help me?

Many thanks for your quick and prompt answer.
Nice to know what I am repairing...
I haven't seen this kind of thermal protecting before :)

Anyway, It seems like the cable wired around the ceramic piece is broken.
Is it possible to obtain this kind of parts to day?

Velkommen til oss, Ronny

Maybe not so easy to find such a part. It may be replaced with a PTC resistor.
Your transformer is the same as 6117, 30VA, but has a different connector.
6177 was made <s>in 1968 only</s> from 1962 to 1968.

A suitable PTC could be a PolySwitch TR250-145, max. current 3,0 A or a LVR 025S, max 3,5 A.
Another is BC Components, typ 663 54913, 3,5 A. They also have a 2,2 A type, 662 53213, but maybe 2,2 A is a little bit "too quick".

They are available from ELFA. They have a shop in Oslo. See http://www.elfa.se/no/index1.html

Can you buy fuse wire and rebuild it? I managed to do that with a dead laptop PC a week or so ago.

Thanks for your splendid feedback. I found out that we actually have different kinds of thermal fuses in our stock at the Naval base. I will most likely acquire one today and see if it solves my technical problem.

So, the trafo is actually around 40 years old... I guess most of my tracks are the same age as well... not bad :-)
