Hello Stefano,

than I wish you a lot of fun with your train.
But remember, it is the "Gottardo". On the box Märklin put "Gotthardo", but this is a printing mistake, mixing together the german "gotthard" with the italian "gottaro".

kind regards

Strephan

Hello Strephan:

I am sure that there is an extra "R" in there somewhere. It is amazing how easy it is to make a mistake. I guess that in Italian it is Gottardo.

Gotthardo, that sounds like some kind of Levitra/Viagra generic brand name.

There has already been quite a few postings, good and bad, about this model, in this forum and on most other European railroad forums.
I agree that the model is very nice, but I was expecting a better design for the bogies and the interconnecting gangways.

I hope that you enjoy your model. Just make sure that you don't lose all those little cardboard pieces and the plastic sheets from the box.

Here is the link to the earlier postings about this model:

Hi Stefano,

How do you like the curtailed lenght, the horrendous connectors and the unsightly movable skirts on this Märklin second-rate model?
I don't!
Best regards,

Rocca - I bought one a few weeks ago and really like it. It is solidly built and I really enjoy the factory installed lights inside. The space between the cars on 360 track is not a problem for me and less of an issue if you have the black, not green, side visible where it matters most.

Enjoy...as I have, Rocca.

Stefano, every now and then I wish I would model Swiss prototype instead of German era I, this model would definitely be on my wishlist. Enjoy it!

Hi dear Märklin friends,

Thank you very much for congratulations...the "Gottardo" (thank you very much for your suggestion, Stephan) is now on my tracks and it seems really well and it works very fine. I'm astonishing that no diesel sounds are available, but the Zug is really imposant and wonderfull...really!!
I'm very happy about my new item purchased...

Best regards
Stefano

Hello Stefano,

if the Gottardo had diesel sounds, I would be a little worried, as it is an electric trainset. As far as the limited number of sounds available, Maerklin continues to use a mfx decoder with a separate sound module. Unlike the ESU mfx-Loksound, where the sounds can be modified by the user, the Maerklin sound module is very limited.

You probably can replace the maerklin decoder with an ESU one at some point, but I would wait at least two years, as that work may void the warranty.

Regards
