Nothing other than Uhlenbrock are way behind, and the Ecos, V Commander, CS1 and CS2 seem to have passed it by.

I think not, sorry. But hey, they've got a great picture and brochure. Running a technology company is all about peddling vaporware.--MM |

It is a shame as the Intellibox was a good product.. I don't know why mine passed away, but if it hadn't I would still be using it... It goes to show that when you have a hit product you move quickly to invest some of the profit into the next generation straight away... |

Thanks for the replys. Lots of talk about the CS2 lately of course(which I haven't seen in person yet but like what I see on this site for the most part) and just recently recalled reading on this forum about the IB2. I thought I'd check and see if anyone had any updates on it.

The programming of these decoders with the IB 1 is a crime now[}:)] Despite of the "invasion" of high end systems like the ECos, Commander and CS2, I'm really looking forward to the IB2. The simple IB1 has served me well: its reliable, easy too use and still gives me the idea that I understand what is happening inside the box. The other systems seem far too sophisticated for me: I have to work with computers all day; wenn I finally have time to run my layout I'm glad to find a system like the IB.

I guess Evil, it will depend on what exclusive rights ESU have to mfx, apart from Marklin. If they have rights to mfx for the next few years, then you will not see mfx in the IB2, but if they don't and the mfx protocol is freely available in the marketplace then you may well see it! I was considering the IB when I was looking for a new controller in 2005, but I finally went with the CS1.

There are two ways for Uhlenbrock to face the competition:
1) Develop a fully featured user-friendly controller like EcOS, CS2 etc. 2) Keep on making a technically advanced controller with good connectivity like IB and go for that market.
I think introducing the Intellibox Basic was a mistake. It is stripped of some of the best features of the IB and is still too complicated to attract the beginners.

Yes, as far as I can see, the strenght of IB is the connectivity, in particular LocoNet, and it's philosofy of distributed logic. AND all good items Uhlenbrock have produced working on it. So I would nog suggest UB to compete with those big blocks of functionality (ECoS, Commander, CS2) but a modularized central unit. It should not have a fixed booster nor a fixed throttle, but possibly allow for plug ins; connected on internet.
For my part I mostly use a spiral cable throttle (Daisy), and for turnouts other equipment like switch control etc, and the IB buttons themselves more rarely (programming etc). If I would like a large screen (quite seldom) I prefer to plug in my computer.
I also have one idea, coming from my early misunderstandings of the ECoS specs; couldn't it come in handy to have a joystick as an alternative control in some cases? Up means increased speed etc, changed by S/W configuration so that for a crane I would have the joystick for turn and lift boom, and speed control to lift rope... It's more fun to sound the whistle with a yoystick than a button... CS2 idea to allow for USB devices is very good; I would prefer a built in controller, USB is of course much more value for money AND more modular in it's thinking.

I have just found out that Fleischmanns PROFI-BOSS can been using as a slave by connecting to Intellibox II.
Both of them has loconet and has same sonderfunktion too.
But this will only been function in DCC.
Because PROFI-BOSS is only made for DCC.
That´s pitty to shame...!

I would be very surprised if you are correct, Goofy. PROFI-BOSS as master, certainly doesn't deliver Motorola. But as throttle to LocoNet, you don't use DCC or any other rail protocol; it's the master who understands LocoNet commands and transmits DCC, Motorola or whatever.

So has anyone decide to purchase the IB II?
On a technical note, although the IB II lacks an Ethernet connection, is there anything required in addition internally, or could someone purchase a USB Ethernet adapter and connect to a network that way?

CS1reloaded for example can run all protocols at the same time - incuding SX, DCC, MM (14, 27, 28 speedsteps) and MFX. Intellibox supports MM, DCC, and SX. With Intellibox II you should have MM protocol with 14, 27, and 28 speedsteps. The recently used locomotives (and the special options of the IB) determine which protocols are present on the track. |
