Intellibox II only has an output at the gleis terminal of 10/11 volts

Hello I'm looking at my dad's Intellibox II and the output at the gleis (main digital output) is 10 to 11 volts using a voltmeter. I can measure 14v at on the main track digital output on my CS2. I'm thinking that it's in some weird state or that the Intellibox is bad.
I've tried to run known good engines on the test track with no luck.
Any ideas?

Connect a light bulb to the track output or put a coach with interior lights on the track to test if there is voltage. |

Except that still does not explain no Loco operation? When did it last work correctly? What (if anything) has changed since? I'd first be looking for cause and effect Cheers |

"Red" and "brown" swapped? It seems there is voltage on the track. There are dozens potential reasons why locos do not run. |

Check the Intellibox is not in N gauge mode if using with HO. (First IB had such an option which altered the output voltage.)
Do you get the lower reading when it is disconnected form the layout?

I will use the rectifier and test that way. It worked approximately 6 weeks ago. It was turned off and then my dad had some health problems now the IB will not work. I can confirm that there is track voltage. I placed an engine with a delta decoder. The lights do come on, but will not move in response to changing the throttle. I placed an engine with an older mm decoder it does not respond... As to what has changed, I cannot say. My dad said that he didn't change anything... You are setting the Intellibox to the address of the locomotive, right? I know it's a dumb question but I don't know your experience level.

No worries. Yes making sure that the address is set. and the protocol is properly set. Originally Posted by: rbw993 You are setting the Intellibox to the address of the locomotive, right? I know it's a dumb question but I don't know your experience level.

In my experience when things suddenly do not work and people say they changed nothing then quite often they accidentally swapped "red" and "brown" which causes older MM decoders to stop responding.
It could be that one phase of the IB output stage has failed and that either the positive or the negative part of the track voltage is missing, but IMHO this is unlikely. Testing both ways with a single diode and a voltmeter in DC mode should reveal that. It can't harm to have some load while measuring the track voltage, e.g. a lighted coach.
Maybe a Reset was invoked for the IB. If not then maybe a Reset will help. This may require some initialisation after the reset, e.g. setting MM as the default. |
