Hi all,

I seem to recall from the 6021 manual that a few models equipped with somewhat older decoders do not function when the 6021 is set to combined usage of the Motorola "old" and "new" format.
Examples mentioned were as far as I can remember:
1. The function decoders in the coaches of the 2681 Wilhelm Zug
2. The Tanzwagen 4998 Function decoder
3. The Kelnerwagen 4999 Function decoder

Here's my question: does anyone know - or have any experience - with the compatibility of the models (or more specifically decoders) in combination with Märklin Systems?

Thanks in advance!
Sander

Sander, I cannot comment on Marklin Systems but I am able to operate the lights in the coaches of 2681 via F1, F2 and F3 on my 6021 in both the "universal" mode (DIP 2 on, 1,3,4 off) and the "control unit" mode (DIP 1,2,3 onm 4 off). This is contrary to the note in the manual.

Thanks, so the 2681 does not seem to be a problem when operating it with Systems. How about the 4998 and 4999? Does anyone have (one of) these items?

AFAIK there is no problem operating the above cars (nor Messwagen) in combined mode. But those cars need to have the original Motorola signal, and I think that wasn't possible with Mobile Station. But with CS it should be possible, shouldn't it?

The Messwagen that measures speed/time/etc won't work with the MS (or presumably the CS) - it just defaults to a scale speed readout with the head lights/tail lights on. I'd therefore assume that other older coaches with function decoders will have the same problem. Pity really, I wouldn't mind a 4998/4999!

Hi Antono,

No, up to now, I haven't. As I do not have the 2681 nor the CS yet, I can't. If the 2681 is controllable with Systems, I'll probably buy it. If not, I'll go with the 2881, as it is cheaper. And install other function decoders. (The loco is not functional anyway, neither the Delta, nor the digital version is capable of pulling the complete concist due to a lack of pulling power)

Sander,

My S10 from 2681 is capable to haul the 6 wagons..no problem at all.. although it is indeed seem a bit like a heavy burden for the loco..

maybe it will be a problem if hauling the 6 wagons thru some upgrades.. , but as far as i know , it still is working fine..

the 37190 and 37192 works better though..

regards

Hi Sander,

these models are not included in the CS/MS loco database.

But,
certainly the CS may configure a loco for Motorola old operation? Not?
Also, the old stationary crane and home built decoders use that protocol.

Correct. Please see also CS Handbook 3.3.2 (Decoder); when you assign a new loco manually, you can choose between "Märklin-Motorola" and "Funktionsdecoder". The latter setting is for those older decoders, i.e. with the CS you can control the cars #4998, 4999, 49960, the crane #7651 or car #58115. You're also able to select the corresponding icons for those functions.

Coolness! Now the search for these items can begin... (Well, not to be too enthusiastic: the search for the 2681, for a studentproof-price)

Thanks everyone!
