Thanks to Roland for the explanation and as Ron says perfect English.
There have been many things made in Hungary over the years and all seem to be fine so I dont see a problem with M stuff being made there.

Just a brief comment : I sent an email to Vollmer and had a reply in 4 hours in perfect English which was very helpful. Top marks to Vollmer.

Lutz,
as my darling husband says, you come across very stiff. We could see no problems with John Blacks Message.
Maybe you need to take a trankaliza and have a good lay down to unstiffen your mind.
I am not sure what this means but my husband says that you are a stiff as a honeymoon tackle. I guess that it is some sort of English saying.

No quite sure how this previously good thread descended to this level.


Putting my cards on the table, I don't particularly mind where Marklin makes it's models. I prefer it to be Germany or Hungary, rather than China to protect the skilled workers jobs. What I wish is that Marklin/Trix would be more open as to the country of origin. It seems country of origin stickers are only put on goods exported to the USA now.

I would be just as happy to see 'Made in Hungary', as 'Made in Germany'. incidently, I suspect that most of the new coahes are 'Made in China' as they are packaged in exactly the same way as the US outline freight cars, which are known to be made in China, clear film wrap, 2 part plastic trays.

I think it is just nice to know where something is made. Axel Dietz (Marklin CEO) gave the impression in a recent interview that all 'high quality' locomotives would continue to be made in Germany.

Getting back to the original theme of this thread...

In the instructions, it i stated that this model should only be used with certain transformers. Does this mean that I should not use it with my 6627? Last time I checked, 120VAC was still the correct voltage for Canada.
Has anybody else noticed that it takes a while to get going in analog mode, and then when it does, it accelerates very quickly. Also, when reversing, if you do not wait after reversing, the lights glow brightly for a second. I also noted that the two lower LEDs are pretty much constant, but the top (middle one) flickers depending on voltage.
On a lighter note, I tried to see if I could operate a trainset with two motor coaches. I have not as yet got this to work. As far as adding a sixth coach from a second set, the power connectors would have to be reversed for the coach to be inserted in the correct position.

Here's a quick overview of my review of my 39540

I like the SDS motor
I like the bright white LEDs
I like the LED interior lighting*.

I don't like how Maerklin designed the connections between coaches
I don't like how Maerklin designed the bogies/side panels
I don't like the fact that there are parts of the coach that are not lit.
I don't like the built in sound module with generic sounds
I don't like the plastic sheets that are used to wrap the models in the box

I don't have a problem with the scale (1:93)

I like my model, but I could have liked it a whole lot more if they would have taken the time to design it better and make it worthy of comparison to the VT605 and other prior models that are considered "gems".

I am not a rivet counter. This is just the assessment of a modeller who has waited a long time for this model and who had higher hopes.
