I recently replaced the tires on my Marklin 3089 Red Baron BR 03-10 with new 7152's and they are really stretched tight on the wheel. Enough that at some places the rubber is very narrow. Didn't seem right, so tried some from a different package and same result. The expanded parts diagram I have for the loco show these to be the right tires. Did I get a bad batch of tires, did the size change from when this loco was made to present, something else to consider?

The loco was unable to get traction climbing an incline that my other locos have no problem with. It seems like it has plenty of power but just not enough grip.

Help is much appreciated.

I checked in all my catalogs, it is indeed the reference 7152 which is indicated.
I don't have this model, someone who has it here could confirm this.

Or there is a packaging error...

Installing the "Haftreifen" on Märklin wheels is a bit delicate but not so much on the 3089 PROVIDED you have removed the body and removed the screw that hold the coupling bar (Koppelstange).
Once you have done this:
- clean the grove (residues of the previous tire and oil)
- use RECENTLY-purchased traction tires 7152
- use a very thin screwdriver (one MM or less) to help the tire go UNIFORMLY into the grove
- the trick is to have the screwdriver parallel to the axle , above the grove and touching the wheel flange
- manage to have the tire go around the screwdriver and slide the screwdriver above the grove for more than a wheel turn

That way, the tire tension is uniform (and NOT streched at one point and almost overflowing the grove at another point).

Take more time to write it that to do it.

If you can't get the 7152 to work, you could try E656520, as they are slightly "bigger" than 7152.
I don't have the 3089, but I tested it quickly on a spare 3085 wheel that I have. The 3085 is listed with 7152, but E656520 seems to be a better fit on the 3085.
There might be other alternatives also. e.g. E656520 but I believe that one might be too loose on the wheels.

I think they've reduced the width of the tires in recent years/decades and the grooves on the wheels are narrower than before? In any case, the tire must be tight on the wheel because if it's loose it will fall off quickly!
