Has anyone got Märklins turnout/switch decoder m83 and m84 broken output(s)?
How long did you used before one m83 or m84 was broken before you was force to buy a new? |

Hi Goofy the m83 (60831 or 60832) never failed on my layout as opposed to K83 on which the output transitor was burned. The difference is that the m83 has an internal timeout to switch off the current. On the older K83, in absence of an protection switch, if it fails to detect the switch-off order from the CS, it remains on, brune the solenoid which in tern burns the transistor Cheers Jean |

They are for digital use but they work on the traditional, solenoid switch motors and other analogue stuff. (Maybe not all analogue stuff. I only use m83 on switch motors). Copied this from another source: "The Märklin m83 decoder is first and foremost a solenoid accessory decoder. A solenoid accessory can be a turnout motor or an uncouple track. The m83 can also control lighting on your layout."

To JohnjeanB: I think Goofy made this topic after seing a topic in a Danish forum where a user is having problems with an m84. Out the nine units one has gone bad. A while after power on it doesn't respond anymore. A power off and on makes it work again but only for a short while... and so on. The Marklin expert on the forum adviced him to return it to the dealer, if it was still under warranty, or else dump it and get a new one.

In some ways I'm 'catching up' (without much electronics expertise), but probably knew more about my analogue Marklin train set as a teenager than I do now!
