Hi
I have just been in Kuala Lumpur and purchased a 41773 set at Truly Trains, Marklin's seller in Malaysia and a terrific little shop with a vast array of Marklin, Trix and LGB stock. The 41773, although new, has a few marks but nothing drastic, I suspect the marks are from sitting in a box in the tropics for many years. In any event I paid about $110 Australian, which I thought a good price. I was wondering about lighting, and noted that the instructions said there was no intention of creating a lighting kit for the consist because of how it is constructed. I did note on ebay a seller offering up a lighting kit for the 41773 -https://www.ebay.com/itm/124612945999. I am assuming this is a self made kit and was hoping someone could advise of me of this or any other 41773 lighting options. Ideally, I'd like to install Markln LED lighting if possible.

Hi Cameron Here are a few tracks: Solution using LED seld adhesive tape- LED tape is easy to find in rolls for approx 5€ for 5 meters. You may cut them each group of 3 and they are usually 12 VDC - for analog operation, inserting a bridge rectifier and a dimming resistor is all you need - using a thin enameled wire between cars to bring the B (current pickup from "Pukos" (Studs) will help - you need also to install a ground pickup Your choice to have only one per consist or one per car It will work very fine but will be delicate to install and to have the entire consist on tracks Solution using Märklin lighting packages like 073300 (check the length is appropriate for your cars- using this type of lighting means that all the filtering, rectifying, etc is done by Märklin but this is more costly. - the key issue is to install the 2 wire supply between all cars and install a ground return by wheels (a couple of axles is enough Here are some example of LED self adhesive tape implementation (home made except the car in forefront)  Cheers Jean |

Hi Jean
another question - are you able to provide advice on how I might go about separating the wagon bodies and the bases? Its not immediately clear to me. On the lighting itself, I was thinking also this might be the perfect opportunity to use up a bunch of battery controlled LED lights (gaugemaster) I have stored away.

No problem, was actually a bit of rash buy. I didn't actually plan on the purchase but when I came across it, I couldn't resist! We lived in Berlin for several years in the 2000s and actually took the train a few times.

The images give a hint how the coaches are clipped together. Electrotren is now part of Hornby International and maybe they may have an Instructions Sheet for the set that shows how to dismantle the coaches. Hope you are successful in lighting your set. Cameron I have never seen instructions that didn't show how to open the coaches, so I sent that link without looking. Later I did look and was surprised that there wasn't more information there. Good luck and if you figure this out let us know! |
