Cards that are known to work have these specs:
"Chipkarte mit I²C-Bus E²-Prom-Speicher 8 kByte (64 kbit) Chip: Microchip 24LC64 6-pol ISO-Format 85,7 x 54 x 0,81 mm"

RFID is not used.
Regards
Tom

They store information about a loco (AKA loco cards). You can insert them into MS2, CS2, and CS3.
Some use them for backups.
Some use them for quick selection of locos.
They can also be used to quickly register a loco e.g. at club meetings.

Tom, so they are a kind of memory expansion for locos on the control sets.

Not really. They are read when you push them in and can be removed immediately. As I said, they provide an easy way to select locos.
If you use the MS2, but have more than 40 locos, they can be considered a memory expansion.
