I have a question on engine codes. Is there a way you find the digital code on engines if you do not have the instruction booklet that should have came with the set.

Hi Seadog (a first name and a presentation would be just great)

A warm welcome to this great forum.
Here a big fan of Märklin HO, computerized layout from Paris France.
A brief sight of my Rocrail-CS3 controlled layout https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6WnhXPcRqI

On recent (Post 2000) Märklin locos, you may search for your loco on the Märklin website (https://www.maerklin.de/de) , select it, click the download button and get the user's manual.

On MFX the decoder on the loco will register (number, parameters) so nothing to do there.
On DCC, usually the adress is 03 by most manufacturers and it is up to the user to select a new address and write it on a sticker under the loco.
I have created a table of all my locos on Excel (date of purchase, address, protocol, etc). Rocrail also allows to manage your locos including a maintenance schedule
I am not sure if using DCC with a CS3 you can scan adresses to find it. Alternately, you may reset the loco by writing CV8=8 thus bringing the address back to 03

I am a big fan of MFX (all my locos are sound MFX Märklin locos)

Cheers
Jean
