Did Marklin ever produce kits? Most model railroad manufacturers made kits, mostly in North America. Today there are not too many kit manufacturers around. Most are RTR. Model railroading years back was companies making kits and that was the fun part. There is a lot of pleasure you get from building something from scratch rather than having it RTR. There were so called kits that all you had to do was to toss it up in the air and it would come down all assembled. True craftsmen kits comprising bits of wood and rough castings disappeared a long time ago but a few, I think still exist. European and UK models never really went with kits. I think they are all RTR.

yes in the 1960s and 1970s at least one could but rolling stock in kit form. Cheaper than the assembled model.
Look for "Bausatz" = kit. |

Look for "Bausatz" = kit. To the best of my knowledge, all the rolling stock kits had 49xx catalogue numbers, and the handful of locos had 39xx numbers.
