Oh there is a couple of things that I like in there... Do they come with boxes and papers?

Been madly working through the Koll's guide too... Oh there is some really nice stuff in this collection - one item that I would love to have, but I am unlikely to afford... [:(] Where's that lotto win when you really need it??

If he purchased from Reynoulds, he certainly paid top dollar for the stuff also.

I cannot imagine there is a lot of run time on anything . How long would it take you to run each of your locomotives one hour if you had 7,000 of them ? There are only 8,760 hours in a year.

Pity the collection cannot be donated to a museum as an article of Mechanical Art.

I don't think he had a layout just a collector of everything Marklin. All the toys and other products they produced.

at least the ones that are not extremely collectable should be sold off to individuals who will give them a good home - run 'em.

what the heck did this guy do for a living? probably could have saved himself a quarter million if he had shopped around elsewhere than Reynaulds, if that's where he did buy most of the recent stuff. Well, their prices were reasonable, once upon a time.

If one person owns this collection, and he bought a locomotive a day he would have spent about 20 years on that…
There are some really inresting items on that list.

I don't get the quoted numbers.

This list lists "only" 745 items. That is quite far from the quoted 7000 locs. Where are the rest?

Furthermore, it says "nearly a million dollars". If there really is 7000 locs and 14000 wagons, shouldn't the overall value be higher? For fun I did a quick calculation with the listed 745 items. They some to a total of $112,620 - not close to a million of course since it's only a tenth of the locs, but the total value must be over a million.

Something is wrong, either with me or the numbers...

/Brian

Brian - As I read the page they are offering the collection in stages - the 745 items are just the first ones to be sold.

Then if there really is more than 7000 locs and 14000 wagons shouldn't the value be above 1 million dollars?

Brian the collection will be offered in stages. It will take a good amount of time for them all to be listed. On another note. I'm not sure that the dealer selling the collection is the dealer who sold all the items to the collector. I think they are just selling it for the estate.

Hi Adrian,
I have spoken with the broker (I am burning a severe hole in my wallet off this list!) and here are more details:
1: The owner is on the East Coast (supposedly someone famous) and is remaining anonymous)
2: The trains are also located on and will be shipped from the east coast and Reynaulds is nothing more than a broker on this
3: All items are reported to be as new in original boxes.
Once most everything is gone from this lot, they will move to the next

Thats what I gathered for now. I will report more when they confirm the items I have ordered and they actually show up!

I don't follow the celebrity news much at all - wonder who it could be? Ritchie Sambora from Bon Jovi? evidently not someone who died by the sounds of it - either someone who just lost their job (lots of people in DC loosing their jobs and going to jail lately, or getting fired for flushing out commies from the CIA), or someone going through a divorce. this guy is to model trains what imelda marcos was to shoes.

now if it is a celebrity it would be sort of cool to ahve some sort of provinence (I think that is the right term) that would verify that marklin item xxxx once belonged to so and so. There was some auction on ebay a while back that had several marklin trains (mostly early 60's types) that were from a small collection owned by the late Red Skelton. Unfortunately the guy auctioning them never mentioned if he could provide any sort of lineage.

Ok the first list only. I wonder how many of the real rare loco's this person had. I also saw it is on the east coast. Well I am on the east coast, but I surely don't know of anyone (yet) with this collection. Any guess is good at this point.

-You may have hit the nail on the head. By someone famous I was told he was the owner of a large and well known company. Could cetainly be Tyco. I was also told he asn't been collecting that long either: 10-15 years or so. Got into it buying a several hundred thousand dollar collection in Austria and building on that! Don't know if any of this narrows it down...

Adrian- I am certainly in your mindset- I really don't care who owned them or where they were seen- however with valuable collectibles this is the trend. A James Bond Aston Martin DB5 PUBLICITY car- (not even featured in the movies) granted with all the gadgets- recently sold for over 2 million dollars at auction- a regular DB5 is worth roughly 10%......

For 2M, I'd take a regular DB5, go buy a million dollar Marklin collection and a building to house it in! (or maybe just do something responsible) biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

I think it would be highly irrespsonsible to have an Aston and a huge multi-scale collection adn not house them in a safe protected environment [:o)]

I was just informed yesterday that the 3477 Rail Zeppelin is now mine! And for a most excellent price as well! Here is the best part from the email I received yesterday.

"All the items on this consignment list are duplicates so none of them were out of the box. They are all new and never ran."

Now a piece that I have been looking for is added to my small (but growing) Marklin collection.

Looked through the list as well. There are a few items that I think I 'need' but there are few details. I emailed Reynaulds with some questions and got a quick response-except the response was something like...'we totally did not anticipate the interest so we are a little rushed..." sounds like they are a bit behind the curve on this. It's ok as long as they remember that I am interested in a few items.
The only way I was able to get into this was through the forum. If you go to their home page, there are no links I was able to find to this. Anyone know when the updates are scheduled? The email I got mentioned that they had sold 300 locos in a week so I presume there will be a new list in a couple of weeks.
Who has the inside track on this? Stephenbb, if you have reg contact, I think a lot of us would appreciate any additional info you get, and thanks very much for the initial post.
I am hoping that the next list will have a 3067.5 or 3067.6 to round out the NOHAB herd...
Too bad the 3045 is going for over a grand...
