Hi George - I enquired about the One Gauge items ( Not on the list but in the photos). I had a prompt reply stating that the One Gauge stuff will be priced and advertised later - They would contact me then.

Congratz! I've been flirting with the idea of getting one of those too! How much did you get it for?

It would be a cool idea to record a piston aeroplane starting and ground running and storing that into a Loksound to convert a 3477!

So..... I came home yesterday to find a very very large box at my doorstep! Three of us (me, dad and a friend) went in together and bought 9 locomotives between us biggrinbiggrinCool The rundown was: a 3129 SP f7 and 3462 Alaska F7 for my friend, a 3036, 3152, 3605, 3127, and 3791 for dad (he went overboard biggrin ) and a 3739 and 3463(8?) Chrome 460 for me.

I have to say I was a bit nervous, especially with some prices being so low ($120 for a digital red arrow) but everything was better than new. I would say half of them have never left their boxes and a few were so new they needed servicing just to run! The only curveball was the alaska loc. One powered truck was rolling freely and when we opened it up- we saw the motor had been removed! whoever, further investigation showed that this was due to the adding of a 6090 decoder and a sound system on the other side! All this might irritate a purist, but it saved my friend a couple hundred bucks!

All in all I'm happy and I would buy with confidence!

Aha! So John you are the one that got the 3462 Alaska! You beat me to it, I wanted it as well. Glad someone here got it though. I will post some pics of the Zeppelin later on this afternoon. I have to take my daughter to see some old Caverns.

Here she is, I took a few photos while over at my parents. My Father who got me into Trains at a wee early age in my life, shook his head and said it was a real shame that one of these does not exist anymore. He is absolutely correct.

As far as I know this is the second time this one has been opened up since it left Germany way back then. Of course I did have to open it up immediately just to make sure I was not dreaming!

In summing this piece up I am glad I finally got it. I wanted one of these almost 2 years ago. Always chasing it as the Holy Grail I finally lucked out. So good things really do come to those who wait.

I know you are asking, "Bob, why didn't you take it out of the plastic thingy"? Well I just do not have the heart to do that yet. I have not even touched the piece, yet. I am not sure if I ever will run it. Maybe it will sit on my Mantle as one of my favorite pieces, but then again only time will tell. If I do run it, all of you will know.

Very nice. Whether on the mantle or on the track, the Zeppelin will look very good. I would be as undecided about running it as you.

You should let her run under special locations. Track cleaned, secured and cleared. No harm may occur to her. See the propel move while she cuts through the air.
When ESU can deliver the Loksound decoder suggested by Luis, then it’s time for an upgrade I would say.

Enjoy and have fun

Beautiful thing indeed.....

That is one very nice looking model, and I have always thought about getting one.

BTW, I just found out that M's H0 model is actually 2 inches shorter and should have only 2 axles instead of four! It would look really weird in R1....

A few more propeller oddities here:

http://www.dself.dsl.pip...RT/proprail/proprail.htm

Ah, and the Z-scale 8876 is actually correct in all counts! Kato is also to launch N scale versions of the Krukenberg family. The Kato H0 "dieselzeppelin" SVT 137155 looks very good too....

so the real rail zeppelin was actually a squat little railcar - I was not aware it was that small. That's the first photo I have seen of the real thing. I have a 3077 from th first year or two it was made bought it some time around 1977 I think.

Well, don't be mislead by the guy standing in the platform. I think that creates an optical illusion.

Here's other photo and info resources:

http://www.modellbahn.com/kruckenberg.html

http://www.militaryforum...ppelin_Question_P301619/

Amazing how little can be found about this curious contraption.

BTW, from the photos in the end of the second page above, it's obvious that there were either at least 2 schienezeppelins or the only one was rebuilt in at least 2 different versions.

Maybe these posts should be moved to the "Prototype" forum under Schienenzeppelin.... Webmaster?

I got to stop by Reynauld's in Elburn, Il last week on a work trip. It was a good visit and had a nice talk with Rey. Wow does he have the Roco stuff in back (I guess he should being the main US importer).
He showed me some more items from the massize train collection. Apparently this guy had over 7000 Marklin locomotives, and over 3000 brass! Too much to play with so he is simply thinning down his collection. He apparently also has a massive layout - would be nice to see some pics of that. Supposedly he bought a massive collection in Austria as his start. He accumulated this in only 10 years!
He said he will be listing more, and might put some on ebay. He had a nice 3015 crocodile in the 60's blue box - everything mint. He was also thinking of taking some of the collection to Trainfest in Milwaukee later this year - he says this is the largest model train show in the US - period. Maybe I will have to go up there this year and use some frequent flyers.
I also stopped at the Illinois Railray museum. I will try to post some photos in the prototype section when I can. Many locomotives and passenger cars. However some, maybe half of the large collection of steam engines are just rusting hulks of iron. I think they may only have one steam engine that works.

Any updates on sales? Has anyone seen any items on ebay? I'm assuming the link to the original page of lok's is updated so it looks like there is still a fair bit to sell. Thanks in advance!

The list on the website still has not been updated since the original list. I bought 4 locos from that list. The deal was ok, not spectacular. I asked specifically for a couple of DSB versions of the 3029 and 3048 and was sent different ones. Since they were in decent shape, I decided not to make a fuss. Also, the packing was not great (the plastic windows on box were torn because the locos rattled around). I have been thinking about getting some other items, but if I do, I will be clear about my expectations.

The real Zep was powered via the prop (had an aircraft engine to spin it). Marklin's has two motors - one to spin the prop, another to turn the wheels. I recall reading somewhere that the prop motor is rigged to start before it moves off, just like the real thing would.

As for running it, to my mind any stock bought and left in boxes is a waste. So what if it knocks a bit off the value? I buy trains to enjoy them, not as an investment.

About the Zeppelin
Anybody for info about different editions of Marklin Zeppelin?
You remind me , I have one somewhere in its box with some inscription(I don't even remember what is written) and a propeller with hallmark,it is said it is in silver....It is with Delta decoder and a small motor for the propeller.
Could be a special edition,I think... Unfortunately I'm not actually at the place where it is stocked with few other items...

Thank you!
