O Scale Marklin, Lionel Locomotive Identification Please

Hello all, I have a modest collection of O scale that I would like to identify and keep a record of. The locomotive in question is shown below. It doesn't have a number that I can see on it but does have the Marklin signet embossed on the front but a Made By Lionel placard between the two spoon sliders at the center. Any help in identifying this is appreciated. Edited by user 19 June 2021 18:09:44(UTC)

Hi Roman, Some additional photos would be really helpful - front, top, both sides, underneath, Loco & Tender, otherwise it's a lot of guesswork to narrow it down Cheers |

Hi Roman I am far from being a specialist in Märklin O Gauge. Looking in the catalogues I have, the closest is in catalogue 1934 / 1935 under the reference GR66 12920 But there are differences: - the loco in Black and not Grey - all driving wheels are flanged (unlike yours) - there are 2 bottom headlight instead of 3 on your loco - the tender has 3 axles instead of 2 on yours - the typical Märklin motor does not show on your model Here is the catalogue picture The Märklin loco comes with a connection for illuminating the coaches, illuminated cabin, total length of 40 cm. So the loco has clearly a match but it looks like a reproduction by another company (Lionel?) with interpretations Look this ad for more pictures https://www.ebay.de/itm/33356057...27172:g:0D0AAOSwKW5efzYiJust my opinion Cheers Jean |

It seems to be a bit of a Hybrid. There are two other differences I noted. Your Loco has only two 'domes' on the boiler whereas many of the Märklin examples I was able to find in any catalogues through the 1920's / 1930's are either a single dome, or three, but there are some two-dome models such as this E66/12920 4-4-0 example which is close... http://www.dakotapaul.co...ms/showitem.asp?iid=3107The other notable thing is that almost without exception, the motor brush holders on Märklin models are on the left side (looking from the Cab) BUT, that is unmistakably the Märklin Bicycle Logo on the front, and the Loco does have a 'sort-of' Märklin look to it, more-so in some areas than others. The soldering and painting are not quite as distinct as I would expect and this may lead toward perhaps a hand-crafted model? You didn't add any images of the Tender, that's as much a part of the Loco as the Loco itself, especially for things like the coupling, wheels etc. Certainly a bit of an enigma |

It looks to me like someone mounted a Lionel 6 wheel motor in a Marklin body. I used to collect Lionel and had many steamers with that motor.

Roger I could see that as a possibility. I will take some photos of the tender this weekend. Thanks for the replies and it is rather unique in appearance. I have a mix of O scale euro manufactured items and this one is the only rolling stock I couldn't pin down to a model number along with a few layout accessories. Roman

Looks like a lionel chassis on all counts, but wheels painted red |

I have a hunch that it was one of dad's friends that created this. Maybe someone will see this in passing and verify it.

At a second look I have a few chassis/motor doubts. But naturally that is a lionel pickup assembly |

It should be easy to prove. Does it have a three position reverse unit. Also could drop the motor out. |
