Dear All

Does anyone know of an LED equivalent to Marklin 610040 bulb that can be installed in the existing 2 pin connector on the Marklin 37xxx range of locomotives. eg loco 37401 .
I have several of these type loco's with light bulbs and I want to convert them to white LED's. Or is there another method by removing the 2 pin connector and using something else?.

Thanks for your help.

Andy

eBay seller tufftuff has lots of led replacements for Marklin bulbs but it appears nothing equivalent to the 610040 bulb.

Since that bulb is the 16v bulb with pigtail connectors for Marklin analog locos, why don't you try wiring an led with its resistor into the bulb holder. Of course the leds may not run on AC power, you might also have some work to do to change that.

Since the led bulbs tufftuff sells work on both AC and DC and a voltage between 5v and 22v, maybe you could find something you could adapt for your purposes.

Hello Andy,

What a timely post! As mentioned on an earlier post I pulled out some of my Märklin trains that have not seen the light of day for a very long time! Actually I never ran these btw!

I’m referring now to the MARKLIN 37243 set of two! They are a pair of beautiful NS Series 1100 Electric Locomotives. One with a blue locomotive body and yellow nose with number "1138" from the 1980’s and one with a gray locomotive body and yellow nose with number "1136" from the mid-1990s.

Whilst reading the instructions I decided to lube the locomotives as recommended. That’s when I noticed the shells were plastic.Crying

While I took off the shell housing to lube the parts, that’s when I noticed the old fashioned light bulbs, old style indeed with MFX! These incandescent light bulbs which in my humble opinion work well too but I would like to replace them due to the potential melting of the shell. I melted a shell once on a different plastic shell locomotive while I left the lights on for a very long time!! I did not notice it until I smelled something funny in the air so to speak. By modernizing them with LED’s I will prevent this potential incident from ever happening again! Especially on these two beauties!

So like you I would like to convert these to LEDS also, sooner rather than later! Please let us know if you have any success with your endeavour at hand and I will keep a close look out for updates to this post. Regards.

Hi Andy
This will not answer your question as AFAIK those LEDs do not exist BUT there are very inexpensive Christmas LEDs strings on 2 wires (all LEDs are wired in parallel.
So by taking a warm white LED and adding a resistor (1 kOhm or so) allows to have a simple inexpensive solution (here that kind of Christmas LED is priced around 3€ to 4€ for 20 LEDs
Here is one LED (approx 1.5 mm long and less than 1 mm wide

Don't forget to remove the insulation coating on the wires and figure the proper orientation (it has no rectifier bridge nor resistor)
Cheers
Jean
