Hi folks , I have the following BR182 out of the ACTROS starter set i got back in 2006ish. Anyone know what decoder this is. I would like to update the decoder and add sound (I am generally OK with the motor performance) . If I went with an ESU LokSound 5, does anyone know if I would go with a LokSound 5 DCC Direct or with one of the variants (ESU 58410 HO) of the LokSound 5 In either case I assume i would de-solder the wires from the existing decoder and onto the new one. Thanks

Hi! That's a Märklin 6090x decoder on a special for for the BR 182. Most likely the resistors for the LED lights are also on the decoder board. Most people make a small PCB that connects the new decoder with the loco. Don't forget the resistors. |

Hello Phil, many moons ago when all we had was ESU Loksound V3.5 decoders I did the following to BR152 "Fulda Taurus" [img] [/img] [img] [/img] [img] [/img] |

hi Dave, so did you wire everything up into an 8pin and then buy an 8 pin decoder? Very clean looking work.
Thanks

That is a really good choice. I think that Luessi is an under appreciated and very special resource for digital railroaders. Their boards have saved me more than once with their OEM and clever retrofit solutions. Install that and you can do whatever you want as far as a decoder, and change it as many times as you want with no rewiring. Using that would make the upgrade easier and more functional. A definite win win. |

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time. |

Definitely a good choice but when you look at the price, this wouldn't be a choice for me, doing a circuit board yourself isn't that hard to do and with an 8 pin connector being installed into the new circuit board isn't that hard either, but you need some skills to do it., using smd leds its only naturally, you use smd resistors as well which reduces the size considerable. When you add up all the cost involved you sometimes can buy a new loco for this price (SF 59.50). this type of conversion wouldn't cost me more than 5.00 Swiss Franks and with these savings I've already saved half the price of a sound decoder
