Is it prototypical to use BR 18 to haul Märklin 42790 train set? I saw a picture by Carl Bellingrodt of Orient Express. Not sure it is same coach set.

The BR18 hauled the Orient Express in the late 20’s and 30’s. Marklins 42790 is era 1, not era II. It is more appropriate with the OE in the 1910’s! Rivarossi and LS models have more appropriate cars. I doubt, if Marklin will ever do the right thing. They have lost enormous credibility. Look at how long it took them to finally model the S3/6 correctly.

Did Simplon Orient Express and Orient Express use the same coaches in era 2? The Orient Express in the picture runs between Stuttgart and Munich and was shot in 1928.

In the photo at top, I wonder what the extra car is? There should be a diner and three sleepers, along with the baggage cars on each end. Can anyone tell what the last car in front of the rear baggage car is?

Hallo Gentlemen,
Well , this is on the photograph L63 Orient Express pulled by 18-470 from Munich Depot - picture taken by famous Carl Bellingrodt [ famous German Railway Photographer ] in year 1928 in Swabian Jura Mountain.
S.O.E. Express during Epoch II used most likely same rolling stocks as were used before WW1 conflict only color was different / changed.
Around 1922 it was changed from maroon to royal blue. Pictured ( in original post ) steel cars WL type S1 of C.I.W.L. were built in 1922 mostly for “Train Blue “
The first steel restaurant WR type were built in 1926.
S.O.E. haven’t received WL cars till 1929 or so when famous Train Blue obtained brand new LX cars.
Märklin S.O.E. Train is again mix of old ( very old Trix cars dating back to 1979-80 ) In this particular consist Ex. Trix Baggage cars included in Märklin SOE set are pure fiction ! Agh... Those cars
were never used in Orient Express Train or S.O.E. Ditto!
The first Simplon-Orient-Express run daily from mid-April 1919 as a luxury sleeper train to Trieste. And catch up with connecting trains with sleeping cars to Bucharest, Semlin and with simple seated wagons ran further eastward.
Since the destroyed (crossing over Save river in Belgrade the capital of Serbia ) bridge near Semlin was not yet opened , the travelers had to take a ship ferry across.
Märklin SOE set consist of repainted teck wood cars build around beginning of XX century ( 1894-19008 ) for CIWL and “fictional” baggage cars.
