Hi everyone, I’m new to this forum. I already have some H0 digital material and now I was planning to approach the gauge 1, but I have realized that it is impossible to find anywhere a starter set, including the official Marklin site. Are they planning to commercialise any starter set in the near future? Would you suggest to buy the individual railtrack, wagon and locomotive instead? Regards

Hi Clipperpan Welcome to the forum I have found this starter set 55045 that has been discontinued in 2017. On ebay.de there is one for sale here https://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_...Marklin+spur1+startersetI assume Märklin stopped because of the slow sales caused by a high price and people might prefer to buy one item at a time. Cheers Jean |

Only Märklin knows I think they "have to" make a new starter set soon, the last one was the 55046, which first came in the New items brochure 2018, and it was sold out already a year ago. If you can't wait, that's what you have to do, or as JohnjeanB suggests, find an older start set on Ebay or at a dealer. Just one advise: Don't buy anything old, just because it's cheap "Old" means more than 20 - 25 years old; for locomotives you should avoid things with item-numbers starting with 57, and only buy item-numbers starting with 55 Per. |

Some awesome starter sets were released in the Maxi range, they are fully Gauge 1 compatible, but are predominently tin-plate rather than plastic, slightly more 'rustic' looking but still great trains and you might find something appealing. Good luck. |

Guys thanks again, I’m monitoring the ebay auction flagged up by (JohnjeanB), the price is honest and it is in good conditions. I have also checked the “maxi” set but personally I would prefer something with more details with more realism, also because I dont have much space so I will only buy few items I really like. Thanks also for the suggestion to only buy sets starting with 55. I don’t understand though why some loco have a set number with 4 digits (like the E91 5517) while others have a 5 digit numbers?? I do have a z21 which I use with my H0 set up, do you think I can also use it with the gauge 1 set?

Some very nice MAXI products were later incorporated into the general portfolio; A V60, E41 and BR18.4 comes to mind... |

Märklin started to change from 4 to 5 digits around 20 years ago. As a very general rule, the 4 digit versions are analog, and either have no sound, or a very primitive sound; while the 5 digit versions are digital with much better sound. More important is still that the 57xx models have the old AC-type motor, which is "hard" to make digital, and still is very noisy; while the 55xx and 55xxx models have a DC motor, so even if you find an analog model, it's very easy to make it digital. Take a good look into this PDF, it has a lot of very good information, even though you most likely have to use an online translation tool: https://www.marklin-user...rce.ashx?a=58087&b=1Per. |

There was also a Glaskasten in the Maxi range that looked more suited to the standard G1 range.

Thank you very much for all the infos and for the awesome catalogue! Still doing a bit of research, reading and watching some videos. There is soo much out there and on ebay and it’s quite difficult unless you know exactly what you need/want.
