Hi there, I have changed decoder to this loco using the 60943 kit and the 60790 decoder.
Previously was running with an Uhlenbrock decoder with the original motor and this which wasn't very good at all.
The loco runs smoothly, almost silent and it is a pleasure to see running on the layout.
The only thing that is really 'flashy' are the lights, you can see the loco miles away.
IS there the possibility to dim them using a resistor or something ?
I don't know if I'm patient enough to fit the new light fittings, E604180, to change the bulb holders, which actually do not exist as they are dug into the chassis and I do not know if I can find LED bulbs that fit in the space.
I've seen some conversions of your 3001 but they seem to complicated to me.
Ideas ?

Hi,

As you suggested, you can always throw in a resistor to dim the lights. For me that would be the way to go.

I found the spare part list for this loco but the light bulbs are only called Gluhlampen but do noy have any code associated to them.
There are various item numbers for light bulbs: 600000 and 600150. Bot of these have equivalent LED bulbs but which is the correct art. number?
Thank you

My records show that my 3001 has 60000 as the part number for the bulbs. These later became 600000 and more recently E600000.

I looked at the spare parts for my 3035, which are identical, and it says 60 015 which has now become 600150 or E600150.
I found on ebay the following LEDs replacement bulbs, LED Spare Bulbs Bas 5 (Märklin 600150) 16-24V
Have ordered a pack and will report on how they work.

The ones you mention Ray, seemed smaller and this is why I ordered these ones. If not good I'll order the 600000 which also exist, LED Spare Bulbs MS4 (Märklin 600000) 16-24V

Thank you

If your loco has at each end the two bulbs that fit in from the back of the holder it's the 60000. The 600150 is the bayonet type that sits in the middle of each end and works through light guides.

My 3001 uses 600000

My 3035 uses 600150

the light bulbs have arrived.
Replaced only two of them to give it a try, especially because I thought that the studs were goign to be a problem, not problem this time.

The brighteness is the same, this LEDs shine like Xenon beams in a car, cold and whitish.
At least the old ones, although bright, are 'warm'.

I could always use a dab of clear brown / yellow color for glass surfaces.

LED on the short end of loco, back for me.
OLD on the long end of the loco, front for me.

Hi ocram63, Hi Forum friends

I like this loco a lot (I have 3 of them; brown, green and red bodies all with old style pantographs)
These LED bulbs are great I have installed them in all my Märklin signals (7039, 7040, 7042) were regular bulbs (60000) were burning all the time.
On your loco I would dim the light by adding a resistor in series (2.2K or 3.3 k) It is easy to do and the result is fast an un-modified loco.

Another possibility is to replace the bulb with fiber optic. This would allow the light to be flush with the engine body
Here is a picture of my Micheline with a front light being now functional

Here is a little movie of the modified Micheline

Note: on the Micheline, the headlight is protruding
All the best with your project

I've always dreamt of the Micheline but although I LOVE Maerklin the pick up shoe sticking out at the back never made me buy one.
I agree with you the 3001 is a nice loco, too bad M has never re-made a 'modern' version at a reasonable price hahaha

I was hoping that with LEDs the light was goign to be less bright.
So I thing I will stick to the old lamps and put resistor. Only problem is, 30 years ago I knew where to go and buy them after speaking with the shop guy, today I have to buy bulk and try them one after the other. I really hate this noline generation :-(
It isn't fun shopping anymore either.

I was in Berline a month ago and I went to this AMAZING shop, now this is what I like doing. Hope to go back to Berlin or other German cities in the future. A colleague went to Goppingen for work and sent me a picture of the Maerklin factory, knowing I am into it. I hated him for not dispatching me there instead :-(

Hi ocram (what is your first name anyway BigGrin )

If I may I strongly advise you to keep the LEDs (you save on durability on current/digital current, you will install the resistors later.
Another possibility is to paint your LEDs in dull black and leave only a small round zone at the front for the light to get out.

It is a shame that the slider prevented you to get a Micheline. On mine, I have painted the top rear part of the slider in medium grey so on C track you don't see it.
I purchased my set of resistors on Internet in offers like this one https://www.ebay.de/itm/480-Meta...b8a8b:g:wrEAAOSwszVbvDd3
Cheers
Jean

Hi Jean, my name is Marco. If you read backwards my nick / handle you get it too :-)
Not everybody plays this 'simple' trick though.

Thank you very much for the link you posted. I'll give it a go.
