Hello, I just bought a Märklin set 2670 off of eBay, the old wooden loco with digital decoder.
I immediately put the loco on my small layout and went into my MS1, "new loco" -> "2670" and then... nothing. No lights come on, no movement, nothing.
I tried to gently push the loco but it's completely dead. I tried switching through the database to 3670, the adress for the separetely sold locomotive, but still no luck. The address was supposed to be "04", and I tried that as well. I also took a look at the decoder to see that nothing had been changed on the address, but it was set to "04" as it should be.
I genuinenly don't understand what the issue is. I don't wanna have to go through every single address up to "80" but I will soon anyway because I'm getting desperate. The fact that the lights don't even come on boggles my mind.
Any idea what the problem might be? I'll take any and all help I can get from you guys. Thanks in advance.
The seller was a Company with 100% positive feedback and thousands of items sold, so I highly doubt I've been scammed. |
C-track, temporary layout. I try to run my locos as much as possible:)

Hi,
What happens when you try to run the locomotive with a traditional AC-transformer. Does it anything? At the old decoders which have not been used for a long time it sometimes help to move the switches (the ones which should be in ON - position, in your case 2-4-5-7) several times to clean the contacts inside the switch.
Regards
Markus

Hi,
First thing that crosses my mind is the switch for catenary operations.

I couldn't test it with a regular analog transformer because I couldn't find the right wires. But I doubt it would've worked since it doesn't get any Power at all it seems, it's completely dead. The passenger cars however lit up like christmas trees as soon as I plugged it in. |

The settings on your decoder are 1-3-6-8 on, which corresponds to address 36. It's quite common to read the decoder DIP switches upside down. I've done it myself many times!
"On" is with the switches set in the direction of the word "ON" on the decoder. |

"On" is with the switches set in the direction of the word "ON" on the decoder. Thank you so much, this was indeed the case, I switched them back and the loco runs fine now, and looks Beautiful. Thank you all who replied, I appreciate it a lot. I hope to be able to perhaps return the favour one day! Here is a picture of the set actually working:) ![20200108_125643[2154].jpg 20200108_125643[2154].jpg](/forum/resource.ashx?p=54238&b=1) |
