Hi,

I knew that 29340 runs on the plastic track and the infrared receiver is built inside the loco to be controlled.

How about 29730. Does the loco incorporate the infrared receiver as well and runs on plastic track? I saw a C track infrared receiver in the set.

Thanks and regards

Boody

Hello Boody,

probabely you are misunderstanding something.

First - Märklin's "My World" (package 29340) is very different to
Second - Märklin's "Start-up" (29730) line.
Third - Märklin also offers so called starter-sets for their classic gauge H0 system.

All sound similar but they are very different.

We have other threads here at marklin-users.net already about these topics.

https://www.marklin-user...-with-C-Track#post569610

https://www.marklin-user...-turnouts-and-uncoupling
(please see post #11 in this topic)

But also Märklin writes more about their different lines at its website.

In general
https://www.maerklin.de/en/products/starter-sets/

for "My World"
https://www.maerklin.de/en/products/my-world/

https://www.maerklin.de/...rld_Katalog_2019_EN_.pdf

for "Start-up"
https://www.maerklin.de/en/products/start-up/

http://streaming.maerkli...talog2019_online_EN_.pdf

for classical Märklin (or you may write "Maerklin" as well, but please do not write "Marklin". This is a different name in the German language) they offer different sets. A part of them is called starter set. See here:

https://www.maerklin.de/en/products/gauge-h0/sets/

All three different types of starters has a different target group by age. Whereas you can use all parts from start-up with the classical Märklin product programm, this is not possible for My World. My World does not operate with AC. It only uses special batteries for their trains.

You see it by yourself comparing 29340 with 29730 directly.

Best Regards

TEEWolf

Why do you think anybody would respect this, when you have no respect when asked not to use "MUN" for marklin-users.net ??? Confused

Per.

Simple,

If it's battery powered, (batteries within the train itself) then it can run on any track, plastic or metal rails.

If it requires a controller connected to the track by wires, then you cannot use all-plastic track, you can only use track with metal rails.

The trouble is that he is confused by the Start Up sets that have the four function infrared controller, and is not seeing this as non-battery powered.

@Boody
There are two different lines of starter sets from Marklin.

The ones that use batteries and run on plastic track that you have already discovered, and as noted by Cookee have batteries and infrared receiver in the loco, and then the 'next level up' which uses standard C track that is used across the Marklin HO system, where there is an infrared controller which is battery powered, but the train gets its power from the track. The power to the track is supplied by a 'wall wart' power supply that connects to a piece of track that has an infrared receiver mounted in it.

There is also another flavour that is available periodically, which is a sort of cross between the two, where a start set is supplied with a wired controller that is very similar to the infrared one you are familiar with, and is powered by the same 'wall wart' power supply as the second one I mention.

All the locos supplied with these two sets will run with any Marklin controller on a C track system, but will not run on the all plastic track. Any of the rolling stock will work on the plastic track. The locos with batteries in them will run on any Marklin track, but still need to use the infrared controller to adjust their speed.

Hi Guys,

Thank you for your post. Its clarify my doubt. To be honest with you, I had a problem with dirty track after leaving my train stationary for a month or so. I am looking for a battery powered train that could run on a dead track. The intention is to attach a cleaning wagon or what so ever to help me clean my whole layout. I can not use myworld sets because I can not attach noch cleaner and/or lux cleaner

Laugh Why not this explanation from the very first beginning? Because Märklin offers an adapter car between the My World cars (only running by a battery) and all other H0 wagons.

https://www.maerklin.de/...s/details/article/44107/

At this adatper car attach a Märklin track cleaning car.

https://www.maerklin.de/...s/details/article/46049/

I got 2 of these little track cleaning cars and they are very helpful. BTW the NOCH cleaner always I hang at an axle in every train which is running over the layout. So I got a permanent cleaning.

There was a recent thread where someone was looking for a My World Loco for this very purpose. There are very few My World locos that are available as separate items, most of them come in sets. Can't find the thread, obviously using the wrong search terms ... Confused

@kiwiAlan is right. I think and hope I found this thread.

https://www.marklin-user...ack-center-stud-cleaning

In this thread links were provided not to buy a complete My World starter set but only a loco at Ebay, which is running alone with a battery.

Yes, that is the thread, thanks for finding it.

The 36101 loco mentioned is one of very few My World locos available as an individual item.
