In March, I purchased a Märklin Booster 60174 and Märklin Trafo 60052. Testing on a 3rd rail isolated track section, I have problems according to the below clip:

https://www.dropbox.com/...5-02%2018.12.46.mov?dl=0

Trains on the CS2 track section are fine. According to the CS2, temperature of the Booster is pretty high (approx. 25C), voltage high (23-24V) but the load is low. After approx. 10 minutes, the CS2 crashes, everything is dead. I have tested several times with the same result, even with using a Märklin Trafo 6002 instead of the 60052. Both transformer outputs are approx. 16-17 volt.

I believe the Booster is broken, and the seller has offered a return. However, I’m curios to learn if someone else has experienced something similar?

Confused

Hmm,

I'm not sure transfo 60052 is well suited for a booster. Do you have previous successful experience with such combination ?

I would suggest to put a 60061 instead, just to be sure the booster has a problem or not.
25°C as temperature is normal; 23-24V is NOT normal -> you should have a value between 18 & 19V.

Voltage stabilization issue ?

It’s the first time I test a booster since the 6021 era... According to page 7 of the manual...

...a 60052 should be fine. Also, I have tested the whole booster track section, that there is no leakage from the CS2 booster.

Voltages above 20 V are expected when using 16 V AC on the input side of the booster.
The value should be below 19 V when using 19 V DC on the input side.

I'd try using the same type of power (AC or DC) for both CS and booster to avoid potential problems.

Tom

Just an update on this. I returned my products to the seller, and purchased a new 60175 booster and a 60041 power package. Everything is now working perfect! I guess I will never learn if the problem was with the 60052 transformer providing to much voltage, or the 60174 booster.

B.t.w., I’m impressed by how little Amps the trains consume!

Cool

Hi PeFu
Yes indeed My layout with 31 locos 25/30 illuminated cars needs 2.7 amps
Power is provided by 60101 and CS2 60215
