I have seen many reference to Merkur roadbed (seems to be preferred for K Track). Did a google search and this seems to be cork. Appreciate if someone can provide more description and sources (in the US). I am starting a small section with K track and want to secure the track. In reading various posts, this seems to be the best approach.

Regards
Harvey

Hi Harvey,

No it is not cork. It is styroplast.

The Merkur website has a good English description.

Merkur

Cheers

Hello Harvey,

I do not believe there is a North American distributor of Merkur styroplast.

The easiest way to obtain it would be directly from their website.

https://merkur-styroplast.de

I have previously ordered and really like the product, highly recommended as I willl never ballast track again!

Regards,

Michel

THe Merkur site indentifies pieces with and without slope. For curve tracks, only with slope is listed. What does slope mean?

In this case slope means embankment. In other words the ballast slopes away from the track so you have a true profile. Items without slope would be suitable if you have parallel tracks where you want the ballast to butt up against each other without a valley in between.

Hello Harvey,

It would be best if you go through the https://www.merkur-styroplast.de website and get familiar with their products.

Slope is found on this page:
