are you ever contemplating or considering adding servo motors to your turnouts ? I have had trouble with mine for a long time especially double turnouts whereas the lever moved back a bit and the tongue of the turnout wasn't completely against the rail, mind you I've used he underfloor option but since I'm using servo motors the position is permanent and can't move backwards. |

the underfloor mechanism from Märklin are a total waste of time. Mount the regular switch motors upside down after drilling a hole in the base so that it can be switched manually from below. I also tie threads to the inside of the mechanism so that I can manually switch them from above. See http://modeltrain.serveh...sf/1/Switch_motor_thread |

Hello Dale, Before I started my layout I was tryinig to find a supplier for the Merkur roadbed but was not successful. I then decided to use Midwest Products HO Scale Cork Roadbed and the Noch Ballast. I call this roadbed,  Me-work-for! Very labour intensive but the picture speaks for itself!  On my next layout I will definitely obtain Merkur roadbed. Thank you for your post. Regards, Michel

Looks great from the that angle Michel, How did you ballast around your turnouts? The track sinks into the Merkur roadbed in a way the cork bed does not. A photo of the impressions in the Merkur roadbed without the track might be useful here. Especially the pieces for the turnouts. PJ, looks like one of your turnouts uses the moveable frog. Is that correct? Hello Mark, Yes , that is correct they have movable frogs.   I trust you have gathered that I am quite a Merkur enthusiast. One great point is that the "roadbed" for all the points has no ballast granules near the moveable parts, as you can see from the last image above and the blank below :  Re the frogged turnouts, I have only 4 of these since I have only used them in situations where I wanted the minimum parallel K track distance of 57mm - all the rest are double-slip 57mm switches in these situations, or in other situations the classical distance switches/double switches of 64.6mm distance. I have been using the 4 frogs for 17 years and have had no issues with the frogs (except one which turned into a Prince ) Regards, PJ

Not wanting to steal the thread, but as i am finished with laying my track using the Merkur bed, i have loads left over and would be quite happy to get rid of it if anyone interested.

I then read that multiple folk found that after 10 years it fell apart, so I stayed with Merkur. |
