Hi all,

I have encountered a problem when converting two of my locos with 5 pole conversion sets (60760) Both locos are of the same type, the Primex variants of the Br141 electric. They are catalogue numbers 3199 and 3186. Both come with the 3 pole DCM motor like later Marklin models of this type.

After fitting the parts for the 5 pole motor (magnet, armature and brush plate) the screws are no longer long enough to thread onto the motor block. The lower right screw just grips, but the upper left does not even reach the thread. In both cases I have given up and converted them to digital using, in one case, a delta decoder, and in the other a 6080, both of which retain the AC motor. I would prefer a better decoder.

Is there a Marklin screw which is slightly longer for this conversion? If so does anyone know the part number?

If this becomes too difficult for want of a longer screw I can always use a lokpilot conversion with Hamo magnet, which retains the original brush plate and commutator so must have the same dimensions.

Any thoughts?

Since the permanent magnet is wider than the field coil, longer screws are a must. Don't these conversion kits come with longer screws? I'm thinking I've had to cut some off because they are so long they touch and bind the armature.

But I do have the obligatory (six) SBB Krocs
ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control.
With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397.

The longer screws are sold separately. The MRR dealer of my trust was so kind to point this out when I stocked up before successfully carrying out my first analogue to digital conversion.

M describes 60941, 43 and 44 as "...and installation hardware."

The 60944 I have on the shelf has four screws in a sealed bag with the ground ring meant to go under the screw head, two insulation tubes for the chokes and the two chokes. Unfortunately I do not have any of the other two kits to check those.

Went through my trash can to find the plastic bag:

Märklin, Zylinderschraube, 785140

Last time I went there, my MRR dealer near Lisbon had them in stock.

They speak English and ship to other countries:

As I understand 60943 and 60944 contain long screws, and 60941 does not.

Thanks for your help.

I already checked the screws left over from my 60944 kits, but they are all of a wider diameter.

I have done many conversions of DCM motors in the past and I have only found a problem with the Br141 models. I have no idea why.

I'll see if I can get a couple of the screws mentioned by Ak.

The 60760 kit doesn't come with screws, the other kits do.
