Yeah, a number of last years models (2015) were designated as being "25 jahre MHI".

AIUI the MHI deal was originally a select group of shops within Europe who had a say in one-time models to be produced by Marklin and were to be sold only through those select shops.

It seems they are now much more widely available, but still a one time production item.

Hi Alan Cool

My dealer and friend Mike (Westend Trains) explained to me as you and assures me that I could obtain the product MHI on 2016 with no problem at all (37443)

It seems some dealers are authorized to distribute and entitle to sell one - time series productions by Marklin as who made good performance to sell Marklin's productions overall in latest or recent years.

I assume Marklin intends to honor the initiative and positive dealers by awarding the exclusive sale right of one-time series productions.

MHI is an association of dealers that while close to Marklin, is independent.

This group meets periodically to decide what models they would like as an association, discusses feasibility with Marklin, and then orders the number of items they think will sell out. The idea is limited production and exclusivity so that prices will not be discounted, and that member dealers will be able to offer something unique to the public.

Hi!

The new Goliath set is limited to 999 units - less then one per dealer. They won't tell us how they distribute them (first orders win, big sellers preferred, draw).

AFAIK for regular MHI items dealers can order any number of packages they want. Some items from the packages will be highly wanted, some will be shelf queens.

Tom

Just a little hand for those who might be confused by the acronyms used in this thread.... (particularly where English is not their first language)

AIUI = "As I understand it"
AFAIK = "As far as I know"

Both mean much the same thing, hope this clarifies :-)

Hi all Cool

Sorry ..but if everyone begins to use abbreviations, I leave the forum ... I am not going to spend my time to ask me the question: "wants to say what AITK?".
I consider that the forum has among its functions that to be understandable.

I am not here to break myself the brain.Mad

Have a nice day

Serge,

That was only light-hearted banter among the older members of the forum. We created the acronym list (link shown in Tom's post) for a few reasons, one of them had to do with a younger person on the forum, at the time, who used to type like he/she was using a mobile phone and no one could understand what was said in the posts. The other reason is that after years of working in the 70s-90s, we were all exposed to acronyms and they somehow got stuck in our personal lives.. They are not commonly used here so there is no need to worry. Okay?

I am after clarification about MHI items.

It seems MHI items are listed as 'one-time series' on the database but are there also other one-time series items that are not classed as MHI?

Does this graphic/logo on the top left of the box refer to MHI? (depending on answer of above question)

MHI.jpg

edit: and maybe we can list all the 'special' item categories?

Hi!
Insider models are MHI models (a special sort of MHI models).
There are many non-MHI one-time series today. Difficult to find rolling stock today that is not a "one-time series".
Any dealer or dealer group can order models from Märklin - and I think private persons can do the same if they are willing to take 500+ locos.
We have seen special locos for Idee+Spiel, Eurotrain, Conrad, Jim Knopf, Wilde 13, and others. Those items get a Märklin ref. number, but do not normally appear in the Märklin catalogue. Some are shown in the Insider Club News.

Märklin like to make series of 5 locos, usually with display cases or such. First appearance of a new mould could be an Insider model, second appearance in a Bellingrodt Edition (plus €50 for the wooden display case), third appearance as an Outsider model.

The "m" sign is an old Märklin logo. In the catalogue and product database and on boxes it is used to mark MHI items. I'm not sure this usage is exclusively for MHI.

MHI products (without Insider models) are announced four times a year. These are normally one-time series. And theoretically they are sold out at the company before the first piece gets shipped because theoretically they are ordered and paid by MHI and Märklin build them to order.
Practically there were some overproduced models that got dumped cheaply to clear the stocks. But that should no longer happen these days.

OT: Märklin always pay attention to small details and they use (at least) three different long forms for the abbreviation MHI.

Tom

Thanks for the reply. It seems my question about the logo being MHI has actually been answered with the 2017 new items catalogue.

As far as I know, it was the MHI (the Maerklin dealers association) who spend capital (fresh moneyBigGrin ) to Maerklin, when it was in its most critical phase of insolvency. So actually they took care, that Maerklin could survive, even it was insolvent.

The Sieber family bought Maerklin later, after it was recapitalized by MHI.
