wIth the N gauge Start set I got , it has a MS2 , 18V 1 Amp power supply.
I have not tested it to full type load but think that 1A would not be sufficient to run 2-4 trains, some with lit carriages, 8 Point motors and powering 2 M83 decoder boxes.

I was thinking of using a Laptop power supply in place of the original, rated at 19V 4.5 amps.

Would this be a suitable alternative?? Or a Smoke producer?

The ms2 (with the track connector box) is current limited at 1.9A so any supply bigger won't make a difference.
There is a 36VA supply, art no. 66361.

If you need more than that you'll probably need to find a alternative control station.

Thanks, most likely If the stable grows I will get another ECOS, or of real desperate a Trix CS2. ECOS is the favorite
