But I cannot park it in my garage because my wife doesn't like green livery , so I have given it to the Swiss Luzern Museum.
Do you like it?
I wonder if it's digital, and wich decoder it has...

Sorry to hear your loco sold,It is very nice loco.
Well i didn't like it too much.
Had a lot of trouble with it, had it repaired 2 times, cleaned it a lot, then it finaly ran like it should, but i had then decided to run primarily Danish loks.
So sold it - and bought a Danish lok

Depends on what you're looking for, which country/era/company/etc.
Of course, big boy is worth buying, the thing is amazing. Other than that, I finally managed to run my latest aquisition, an era 1 steamer from the K.Bay.Sts.B (37964, mfx with sound). If you can still find it somewhere, it's well worth its price. Here's a picture:

An old 1958 v200, Pacific, br 23/br 24 an Br 89 from childhood, all analogue. using on actually converting them though...
Lima v80, not worth converting.
34 Marklin steamers from Br 10 down to Glastkasten
V160,V200 W sound, 6 other diesls. 2 overhead [German croc converted].
Most are conversions, latterly upgrading of drum commutators to Uhlenbrok decoders [wow what an improvement].
Also mini 98 class Mallet Roco awaits conversion to digital.
6 Roco steam, and CFL diesel.
Fleishmann Br65 2 6 4 t [great runner], Br010 [tender drive not so good], Br 58 and an 0 8 0 Prussion tank.
Best non Marklin is 0 10 0 Piko steamer.
Buying now massively slowed due to aquiring additional children....

I have decided not to buy a loco if it does not worth at least 340 euros,(real value).
I know it is depressing to consider our locos as many euros but i say that,so as to point out that i aim for the best.
That is the reason that i do not have so many locos, instead of buying the BB i could have bought 14-15 3000,
It is not the quantity of the collection but the quality, and quality means usually more fun

I am at 54 with three on order (VT08.5, the looney tunes lok, and the blue croc (37224).
I love my new little 37522 Seetal. When I get a chance, I'll do a write-up on it.

Hmm.. Think I'm at 9 H0, 1 Z and 5 N now.. 4 more N on the way (or they would be if 1 of the packages hadn't gotten lost and Noch wouldn't be so damn slow), and another 3 N to be ordered very soon. Much of the N stuff are actually full 10 to 16-part consists, not just loco's ;)

10 to 16 part consists? Man, you're doing snake modelling...
I bet most of them are japanese high speed stuff. Sometime ago I digitized a Shinkansen Nozom Kato 10-397 for a customer using no less than THREE Trix 66838 decoders... One for the motor unit, controlling the motor, and another for each of the head units to control the headlights. I recommended this installation so as to maintain things manageable, discarding the possibility of using continuous wiring across the trainset.

Luis
It's not just the Shinkansen that are 16 parts. Many express trains are anywhere from 10-16 parts, even a lot of local trains that run on the Yamanote line (the circular line around Tokyo) have up to 10 cars. One of the 16-part ones I've got is even a container express train ;)
The great thing is that all the cars in the full consists have their own road numbers etc, so you can built prototypical lengths with prototypically different cars.
And yes, the Shinkansen do indeed need 3 decoders. The Kato shinkansen are doable to add power conducting to the couplers, but running wires through 16 cars is a bit too much ;) I'm actually still looking for a fairly cheap and small function only decoder to fit in the end cars, Lenz's function decoder is too big really. Any tips?
(On a sidenote, I ordered a digital camera today, so I can finally make some pictures soon of the stuff I've got ;))

ViragoDLR, no tips about small N-scale adequate, function only decoders, I'm afraid. That's why I recommended simply using three decoders to the customer and he agreed. It came out nicely.
On H0 is quite easier doing these things. Currently, I have a project undergoing for a customer, digitizing a Märklin 3071 with the extra add-on car, in which I'm using a Loksound v3.5 with NEM plugs doubling as current conductor couplers. 7 of the 8 contacts are used, the last will be blanked off to make a foolproof connection.
I'm using the new ESU collector shoe alterator and ESU miniature relais to control internal lighting, using 4 diodes and an electrolytical capacitor to provide DC to the interior lamps.
No room in N-scale for all this stuff....

Luis, thanks anyway. That H0 stuff sounds interesting as well though.
I noticed Tran (CT Elektronik) has a DCC function only decoder with 4 function outputs, 2 of which are direction dependent. That sounds about like what I need (I could use the extra functions for things like driver's cabin light for example). Only problem is, at Lokshop that decoder seems to be always sold out ;)

Wow, it is always amusing to see how many locos are out there, and what a fine stuff! [:p]
So I conclude the average Preiser standing on a layout plattform or sitting inside a coaches enjoys an excellent service.
I suppose even the Deutsche Bahn AG does not run so many locos as the forum members here together.

Be interesting to know how many items of rolling stock we own collectiely, however I don't even know how much I have! I have an inventory of loks, but not of cars, and many are packed away awaiting enough layout space to bring them out. I have been converting my old tinplate passeger cars to NEM pockets so I can run my RTS couplers, and have been surprised as to how many of just those I own.

You know, I could make a simple webpage where people can sign up, log on, and enter their entire collection of rolling stock. Everything would be stored in a database, and from there it would be real easy to get reports of exactly how many loco's people have on average, even more specific, like how many steamers of a certain type or marklin catalogue number etc.
It would be very standard, no pictures or anything, but it could be fun. Of course, it depends on how many people would be interested in such a thing ;)

I keep all my loks on a spreadsheet with Marklin stock #, system (DB, SBB, etc) description, running number, type (diesel/steam/electric), operation type (delta, digital, mfx, loksound), address (for digital), acquisiton date, and cost. never thought of cataloging my stock, though.

John: If you are doing a lot of coupling/uncoupling operations the Relex are the best, but I generally leave trains together and want the car to car circuit for lights, so the RTS is the best solution I have found, since they can couple with Relex and Marklin Kurzkupplung.
I liked the Viessmann 2 pole (which are based, I believe, on Fleischmann profi couplers) but that restricted the use of the locos and possible train mixes to the same type of coupler.

Ron: You're right with your solution. For me "all RELEX" was imperative - more locos than trains [:o)]

Ok. So after reading this thread for almost a year, I decided yesterday to count my lok collection:
3 Marklin Gauge 1, including the 55001 live steam Class 89;
2 Hag e-loks;
75 Marklin HO Loks.
There are two more on the way.
I will post a picture of my train room soon.

Hey guys, not to hi-jack the thread.. but what happened to the "market place" ads? I'm trying to sell a couple of items, and had to resort to ebay..
As for the topic.. I'm now officially down to 6 HO Marklin, 2 1 Gauge, and 3 HO Brass DC models.. as I thin out my collection to what I am actually using!

Oh god here goes. I've spent the last month figuring "train compositions" with my locomotives and cars. A while back I decided I had too many locomotives and needed the matching cars for a few. Well that backfired as now I have a few to many carsets!
Loco Count:
8 Steam (2 US, 2 SBB, 6 DB/DR)
7 Diesel (3 US, 3 Swiss, 1 tegernsee)
52 Electric (48 Swiss, GG1, Blue Arrow, 2 German Crocs)
12 Bemo HOm Scale
Naturally my collection is focused on Swiss and US East Coast Pieces so not much else except the German Loks I can't bring myself to part with. My father is the big collector of everything else but I've been told he will never count as that will scare him!
As for cars, I don't know my number but I am DESPERATELY searching for the following and would appreciate any help in locating them!
1: 4366 SBB EW Passenger Coach (need 2 actually)
2: HAG EW 1 "New Generation" BLS Coaches 2nd Class with the GOld doors (the new ones have blue doors)
3: Any oddball Swiss items that weren't catalogued
SBB Era 2-5

Oke, here's my contribution.
Currently I have approximately 100 loc's. 98 steamers, 2 electrical. 75% is digital (or delta or systems).
That's twice I should have according to my wife, half I want to have.

Belief it or not: It's not always fun to have a large collection. There will always be items you don't have. There is a saying in the Netherlands that having the item is the end of the fun.
(Does this sound convincing?)

I got my one and only Tri-ang set in 1965 or 67, but no Marklin until 2003 when Miss 3 (at the time) expressed a strong interest in trains... Since then I have acquired, according to the Finance Director, way too many locos and wagons. There is some truth in this statement as Miss 6 and I tried to fit them all on the current layout, and failed miserably... [:(] or [:p] depending on your viewpoint and the Finance Director's mood..
