This is actually the little known "dragster" version of the V200. I'm thinking of asking Lewis Hamilton round to drive it around my layout.[:o)]

Don't know if he could handle the 2000 bhp of the V220. He seems to have enough problems with the 750 bhp of his McLaren! [:0][:0]

I have to admit to the addiction! As much as I try and stop I can't or don't want to. This summer I had an opportunity to go to Belgium and when I was ther I HAD to go to Germany, why come 4000 miles and not make the extra 300 to Mecca! I brought back several new prises from that trip, a couple things from a great Hobby store in Liege, if you are ever there it's called Hobby 2000 and it's almost directly behind the Holiday inn. Between the rivers! Any way, I also brought back some stuff from the Marklin Museum, which if you haven;t been to hte new one, you have to go! They even have a restored locomotive front end in the museum.
Since I've been back a aquired more. So I had to recount. This brings the total to 126 locomotives! Some digital some not. My collection now spans all the Marklin HO era. Starting with a US version of their 1937 steamer, all the way to 39000 series locos! And ther is one more (a Belgian double) coming from the Netherlands. Now the problem...do I count it as one or 2? biggrin

And the locomotive:

I have installed an old 6080 decoder for the rear red light in one of the cars, and one in the locomotive.
Later I will convert the locomotive with the 60923 mfx conversion set.

A shop near me had that set for £75, I was sorely tempted but couldn't really justify it as I already have two DHG700s

How many locomotives do you own?
Would you like to own a real locomotive or trainset?

Here's your chance.

The SBB is selling rolling stock and a few SOB loks, pendelzuege and consists are also available.

If my name was Wall Street and I received my cheque from the US Government, I would definitely move to Switzerland and trade my car in for a nice electric (train) that is.

The previous owner has fitted it with a decoder. I think it's a 6080. At least I'll be able to run it in digital mode.

Ray, reviewing this topic I realize that we buy same items at almost same time (like electric railcar BR515)! My pre-last purchase, 10 days ago, was a 3021 MIB from the eighties...I wanted a digital (or digital-isable) one, and I thought that the one that I already own (a very first, 1958/59 model with two headlights) should be kept in its analog original condition, so I got this new one...It's really NEW, looks like never been used, body& paint pristine...and costed 26€!!

Frits and Nigel - Please tell us more about the running characteristics and what you like about the BADEN 1002, Merklin 39021. I have one on order and am anxious to learn more about it.

Does anyone know if those that ordered the loco and coaches in this set will get each separately or together. I lost the information after I order both the great looking loco and coaches.

Thanks.

Running characteristics are on a par with, say 39050. Minimum possible speed may be a bit too high for rivet counters, maybe. No jerks, no hesitations, strong puller.

Visually, it's a gem. For the first time in a Märklin steamer, you can see through the chassis the way you can in the real loco, or as say, in Brawa's S2/6.

The coaches are coming later, I believe November.

Hi Larry,

These locomotives were relased at my dealers last week, but the coaches are still to come.

About the difference between 39021 and 39020/39025, it's more then taste, I guess.
This time Märklin surprised herself, by releasing a much more beautifull engine then the laeflets could tell us.
Even my own pictures (also due to resizing) can't give away it's finest colour accurately.

To make a comparisson with the DRG-versions:
the pretty harsh red/black livery can't stand in the shade of the balanced reddish brown and blue/black configuration of this Era 1 majesty.
Besides that, specific Era 1 details lift up this model in a precious way, such as the extra stairs on front of the boiler, which were removed during DRG era.
But let these images speak for themselves.

The loco runs very smoothly, and starts at the first click of the control knob on my CS2. The speedometer shows this as 2km/h but I don't know if that is meaningful!

The finish of every aspect of this loco is absolutely first class, and makes the DRG version look rather dowdy. (The DRG version is nevertheless a first-class model!)

I'm just summoning the courage to open the loco to fit a smoke unit . . .

The coaches are not available yet, but I have them on order too.

Indeed... Both are great, and, although I'm also slightly biased by considering the era I version (39021) the more beautiful one, albeit just a very little bit, I have to put forward that a good comparison can not really be made. Allow me to explain, both pictures are of very good quality and show in great detail the front half of the locos, however, the era I version received some extra details whereas those are - out of the box - not fitted on the era II DRG version. Of course this is not the only difference, but it does enhance the looks of the model significantly, making it looking better compared to its sister. (For a fair comparison, both models should be photographed out of the box, or in "enhanced" state.)

Once again, both look stunningly beautiful! (And I am afraid I really need to work some overtime... [;0] )

Thanks much to Luis, Frits, Nigel, Sander and others for all the great information on the Maerklin 39021. Wonderful of Frits to demonstrate the visual differences between the 39021 and 39020.

Both looks wonderful but the 39021 looks amazingly detailed and striking.

Can I ask if the prototype used in Era I was actually painted this shade of blue? Just curious. Thanks.

Yes! Although I do not know whether this actually counts as a new loco, I've just finished the conversion of my second Roco Bay. BB II Mallet (43281) into a digital AC-model. (see: https://www.marklin-user...lt.aspx?g=posts&t=10600) Runs like a charm!

That brings the count to 323era I, digital models, and one Z-gauge BR 120.
