Hi Nev.

Sorry your Br64 doesn't meet expectations. I think it's a great looking little steamer, and I was actually thinking of getting the non-sound version, which I think looks nicer with the spoked rear pony wheel. Your comments have reinforced my decision!

<br />After an action packed past 2 days I finally got my BR64.
What a disappointment. [V][V][V] Not really worth the Money [:(]

Nicely detailed but smaller that I thought. Not a great concern

Sound is MOST terrible. I can hardly hear it. Marklin should learn from ESU. Whistle is pathetic and other sounds are hardly worth Mentioning. [xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(]
Thinking about selling it.

Gave it a run for 10 minutes and now packed away.
Is there a recall or Upgrades on the sound issues ?????

Dunno what they gave you, mine is nothing like you describe. Macca had a look at it last night, (he was down this way) he loved it. Sound is fantastic. Can't help it if the Leader of the Trolls is a wee bit deaf then can we.......biggrin

Looks like yours is not as good as it should be. Presume you have sound turned up to full. You could maybe check that the speaker is OK. If it really is very quiet then send it back for a new one Nev.

Just checked. Volume is up high.
Damon, Maybe a Comparison Test needs to be done to compare the noise levels before a decision is made to post back for warranty.
Running characteristics are OK.

Nev,

find out if your dealer or the national importer has one in stock that they can compare with yours. If your unit is not up to spec, they can either exchange it or send it back for repairs/tuning.

Loco number 54!

Got myself set 28501 which has this cute little DHG500 in RAG colours. The rest of the train is quite interesting too.

It has a delta decoder, which is good enough to trundle round my layout in digital mode. No upgrade foreseen here.

Yes Steven it has working lights, but they only come on when the loco is running. It is the older type of Delta decoder.

RAy , Ditto on the new Train,

John,
you are correct again. Right Ear is worse than the left. Ammo and Aircraft Noise.

Did a comparison of the BR 64 and the BR 18. Whistle & Bell Sound Level on the BR 18 is much louder. (Without hearing aids).
a real comparison will have to be done.

Well first of all congrats and Applause for Marklin Service department. SmileSmileSmileSmile I fired off 2 emails this morning (Night in Germany) and I have received 2 replies. CS to hospital but this is the reply I got for the BR 64 Noise:

Dear Mr Williams,
Thank you very much for your e-mail and your interest in our products.
The sound volume you hear is default for the BR 64. The volume can only be increased via register 63, you can enter a maximum value of 63.

Question .
I have the Volume set to its Max
How do I adjust Register 63 to a MAX Value of 63.?? confusedconfused On the Cs cannot see how to adjust the registers.

All sugestions welcome Smile[^][^] but no rude ones

Every one a beauty! How does the E60 run with the 60760? I have a similar one with a delta decoder which could do with upgrading.

I added two more locomotives to my collection today.

As I dropped in at my MMR dealer today, to pick up the missing interface board for my CS, I found two interesting locomotives, of which I already have one:

3772 DB 212 Diesel locomotive
3774 DB 216 Diesel locomotive

They were both made in 1985 for the dealer's digital demonstration layout.
Both have transparent bodies, which in this case have not turned yellow.
I think I got them for a very good price; approx Euro 62,50 each (NOK 500,-)

Photos will follow.

The "old" one, bought last year:

Both these photos were shot today, in lamp light. They are adjusted identically, to see the colour difference. Still it is not correct. I will shoot new photos in the daylight.

My collection is not large, but it is all digital.
I have 3 steam and 1 diesel from start sets (all are MFX).
2 diesel (MFX)
4 electrics (2 are MFX)
1 steam, my latest, is MFX, Märklin #37115.
Another diesel from a Fire start set.
And I also get to play with my grandson's Class 81 0-8-0 from his start set.

Here are some pictures of model #37115 for era III, a beautifully proportioned engine in the real world. Built in 1913, it served in south west Germany till 1954, as class 18.1. It had driving wheels of 1739mm diameter, which suited it for passenger trains in hilly country and steep gradients. These are smaller wheels than the other class 18 steamers also offered by Märklin.
The model is FULL metal, and has sound.
UserPostedImage

The engine had four cylinders, the inner two are inside the massive chest under the smokebox. Märklin have modelled the wheels and valve gear exquisitely.
UserPostedImage

The prototype for the model was built for the Württemberg Railway in 1913, and Märklin have modelled the brass makers plaque on the valance, and it is readable. You can purchase Roco ex Württemberg coach models #45494/95/96/97 to go with this engine, though the Märklin set such as 42750 would go just as well. The cranked axle for the inside cylinders, would have been visible through the frames.
UserPostedImage

I hope you like the model. The only downside is it is not designed for a smoke unit.
regards
Kimball

Very nice, Kimball.

Very similar to my 34112, with the Olympic rings (very topical at the moment!). Mine unfortunately has a delta decoder, but actually runs quite nicely.

I have to update since I'we been busy acquiring new stuff lately. I mostly buy cheap loc's in bad shape so I can give them new paint, weathering and a decoder with a good consciense.

My locs with a few notes:

3048.2 Br 01 Stays analog
3048.5 Br 01 New paint, to be digitized
3003 Br 24 New paint, needs new pushrods, to be digitized
3196? Br 81 Primex? Telex. New paint, to be digitized
3065 V 60 To be digitized
3084 Br 50 New paint, needs a new decoder, see A lesson learned
3021 V 200 New paint and some detailing, to be digitized
29152 V 60 with chassis from "Thomas", bought for curiosity, maybe use the body with a 3065 chassis? My first digital loc :)
14-717 Br 01 Precision Craft Models, my first modern digital loc with beautiful detail and loksound 3.5. Just fabulous!

I have 3 loc's in the mail allready paid for:

29815 Br 41 Delta decoder, upgrade maybe?
3096 Br 86 To be digitized
3106 Br 78 To be digitized

I have to stop buying loc's now. At least these that need repair or digitizing. Gonna start saving on decoder's, paint and that kind of stuff.

Planning on Epoch III DB

Hi Jussi,

That's a nice list of classic Marklin loks there. It's always nice when these old ladies are spruced up and given a new lease of life.

Thank you Stephen.I have not tested the locos yet, because my layout
is temporary out of service.I have a nylon sheet on the layout during
the summer and i have to remove it.I noticed that the 39011 have not
got front coupler, this is the first time i saw a loco without it.confused

The 39010/39011/39050 and most of BR01 don't fitted the coupling at the front.

Jussi,

Since I mainly buy trains in the same condition and for the same purposes as you, it would be great to see some pictures of your refurbished loks (in "before" and "after" condition). I enjoy so much seeing an oldie back on the track!

BTW, I also own PCM BR01 (in two different variations). It's a great lok, but a bit fragile, in particular the lok-tender coupling.

And, getting back to the topic...I own waaaaaaaaaaaay too many of them (and I really mean waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many). Should sell some. But I don't like to choose which ones to sell, so I will do it tomorrow.... :D
check out http://maerklin-back-on-track.blogspot.com if you like to see how old Märklin locos are brought back into life! (in spanish by the moment)
