The Rheingold set and loco looks very interesting |
German trains era I-II and selected III, era depends on the mood, mostly Maerklin but i can be heretic if needed XD, heresy is no longer an issue.. LOL |

Hi,
I'd search completed ebay listings for an idea of value. Just search Marklin and the specific part number. Take note that green prices are items that sold, and red prices did not, so the red isn't a great idea of market value.
The Rhengold set and locomotive is worth an solid $350-500 assuming nothing is wrong/broken/scratched. The start set and loose cars much less than that |

I've checked things out on ebay, but the sold listings are so varied. No scratches on anything, and most of it doesn't look like it's even ever been out of the packaging.

How nostalgical! The first set, 2967, was in my first märklin catalouge that I got when I was still a child. I remember eying this set forever. I don't know about it's value (probably not too much) but I think that a collector or someone that it has nostalgical value to might of course be willing to pay more than the average märklinist for it.

Thanks for the info Oliver….knowing what you do about it then, can you help me put a date to this set? I can't seem to find much info about it.

I think you will find the Rheingold coach set and 3318 locomotive that "matches" it have the most overall value. The other items are fairly common, but in good shape can still fetch a good price. If selling on Bbay I would recommend selling items separately instead of one large lot.

Totally forgot about that. If my memory serves me right, the set can be found in the 95/96 catalouge. Could be +/- a year though. If you want, I can get you a svan of the catalouge pages referring to the set. It would be in Swedish though. Ler me know. |

Good memory. Appears in the 1994/1995 English catalog page 19. See attached. Appears in English catalogs 1989-1995. -Brandon BrandonVA attached the following image(s): |

The 4228 Rheingold coach set is the "golden nugget" in your pictures.
I would say that the loco 3318 is a nice too loco from those times and may bring some bucks if analog runners don't have it. The rest is rather common stuff that you can find at most sale sites... |

Thanks all for the info, and thanks for the catalog scan, very cool. The only thing that seems to be missing from this set is the instructions. I'm sure the previous owner took them out to read through them at some point after purchasing and they never made it back to the box.
