Matthias (station500) was getting $599 each for a while on ebay. I think it was a combination of hype, wanting the first one on the block with it and the item not being in a catalogue. I'm sure several people bought it as being some odd uncatalogued item and a rare item worth the premium over the regular GG-1. I personally like it a lot, but not enough to buy it wish it had the PRR lettering as well (think switching the green with silver and the gold with black) On another note. I have sold all of my UP rolling stock and officially gone east coast with my (modern era) american prototype Marklin! (now that I have a Mikado and GG-1) I will continue my UP in O scale as I didn't need both. I have some downtime after mid September with the layout building business so my Era 2-3 NYC (city not central) industrial/downtown diorama project begins soon!!

Now that I have cooled off a little, the dealer is going to send me green version, the hope is that since it was a later release it may not have the same problem. We will see......

Regards

Good news, I got the green version of the GG1 yesterday and had been running it for about 15 hours without a glitch!

Without casing GG-1 looks somewhat like a Big Boy without tender. Motor and gear seem similar. Very heavy: metal bar with wheels. Very economical wiring of motor, decoder, speaker, and lights.

<br />I wonder if that is actually just an unpainted "Metall-Technologie Ausfuhrung" or actually a depiction of a real lok ?

Luis: That silver color was a real one, too - thank Hans-Martin's Smile recent link now we know.

the link below has been posted here before on this subject I think , but check out the color scheme about half way down for the PRR "Congressional" train. It is painted silver with RED markings and stripe, "Pennsylvania" is black.
Amtrak also had a silver loco, with bluse stripe and red hoods.

the marklin edition in silver is still not representative of a real life loco. all a matter of taste.
