Hi All,

I run my layout through 8 TAMS boosters, they are non-MFX. They take the 5V data signal from a controller (Edits-Pro) and amplify this to 18V to feed the tracks.

Would it be possible to connect a Mobile Station (60651) to these boosters ? Obviously without the possibility to use the MFX features. Toottoot shows the connection within the MS1 cable (see figure below and http://www.toottoot.co.nz downloads section)

Specific questions:
- Does anyone have experience in connecting a Mobile Station to a non-mfx booster?
- Does anyone have experience in using the schematic provided by toottoot?
- What is the difference between Data A and Data B in the schematic? Is A the control signal and B the feedback signal? (or vice versa)
- Would the MS work at all when it does not detect an MFX feedback signal?

Yes, I have tested to connect a Märklin 6017 booster to a Mobile Station.

I connected the full swing track output from the MS through a voltage reduction circuit. I also made the mfx feedback available back to the MS, so that the loco registration worked normally in the booster section. But you can use a non-mfx booster without this feedback, if you register the locos directly on the MS first.

I do not normally use this kind of connection, I made it only to learn more about how mfx works.

Thank you Per for your answer,

Somehow I feel it should be possible to use the Data line directly, therefore eliminating the need for the voltage reduction. However I have lent out my oscilloscope to someone, so I cannot investigate.

I guess the Data lines are the CAN bus and do not carry the track signals.

So IMO the track connections are the only suitable lines - depending on the booster the voltage levels may need adaptation.

People frequently use Delta Controls as boosters for Mobile Stations. The input of the Delta Control can be connected directly to the track output of the Mobile Station.

Hi,
B2 TAMs' booster is driven by the track output.
The specified input range is 12 to 20V AC. See Here.
Looking at the schematic of the booster, you will see that it's necessary that the input signal be both positive and negative in order to drive both Q1 and Q3 transistor.
That means that B2 can be driven by MS1 output.
I guess it's the same for most TAMS boosters.
