Hello,
Recently I bought a second hand 29855 set.
It is in very good overall condition. Everything works except the sound in the BR18 loco.
I would like to know if this is a common issue, or if there's something to "try" before letting it like it is or replacing the decoder.
Lights, smoke and motor works as they should.

I bought a second hand BR18.4 a couple years ago that has the bell and whistle sound effects. Mine didn't work either. Turned out the speaker was blown which I was told is common. Mine has the manual adjustment for the sound and I had to turn it way down when I replaced the speaker because I instantly blew the first one I replaced. It's pretty easy to replace the speaker as I did it twice! :) I believe it's a 5ohm but check it to be sure. The clip above show's mine after I fixed it. Bill |

I have one green BR18.4 Ep. II that has the same problem. I think even when it is good the original sound is below acceptable. Mine also has a problem of starting to move very fast without I change the speed knob. I will change the decoder with an ESU or Märklin mSD. The later is a lot cheaper and if the sound is acceptable I will go for it.

I have 29855 for nearly 10 years ago and I see BR18.4 find no problem since with 6021 and CS2. |

Hi,
Is it possible to know which kind of loudspeaker should I look for?
I can not find any ref or part number on it. I would like to try to replace it and see if it sounds again.

I replaced my speaker with a Miniatronics Corp. 8 ohm 3/4 inch speaker. Part number is 60-075-01. Hope that helps ya!

ill Hi, Thanks! After removing the old speaker I have seen there s an inscription on its backside:acoustec LD20/08, 8 ohm, 0.1 watt. I have found nothing about this part on the web. I assume any similar part will do de job. |

Thanks Bill and Tom. Some time ago I purchased some "equivalent" speakers on eBay- 8 ohm, 0,25 watt, 20 mm diameter for less than 3€ the set of two- When they arrived from Hong Kong, 3 weeks after, they turned out to be somewhat thicker than the original one, but for the BR18 tender this was not an issue as there is plenty of space behind the PCB.
Yesterday I had the time to replace the loudspeaker, "just in case" the issue came from there...and today I have tested the loco. It works OK and the sound has come back. So thank to your useful advice my BR18 works as it should again for only 1,4€. The other option was to change the decoder or replace it with a Loksound...but this is not really a worthwile option.
