Hello, this is mt first post! Can anyone help me with a wiring diagram for a Marklin 3014 electric loco. It has a serious electrical fault. With the lococ on the test bed and transformer turned on, the motor decide to glow just behind the motor plate near the brushes. I have thoroughly cleaned inside the motor. Help would be appreciated.
Email rjw@ceinternet.com.au
Thanks
Robert

Welcome to the forum, Robert. Can you be more specific as to exactly where the glowing is? Is it on the motor plate or the field coil behind it?

Welcome to the forum.

Unless I remember it incorrectly, the light bulbs and holders of the 3014 RET800 have to be secured in place on both ends of the engine (front and rear) otherwise the flat bulb flanges that touch the center of the back of the bulb to provide power (+ voltage) touch the body (- voltage) of the engine instead. The short may appear elsewhere, like through the brushes. If you have the light bulbs in place properly, then this wouldn't be the cause.

Hope this helps.

Thankyou all for the welcome.
The test was carried out with body and light bulbs removed and on a test bed. Initially it would function in one direction and short in the reverse direction, then after a 20 minute period of trying to discover the fault, the lococ decides to short in both forward or reverse positions. the actual glowing appears to occur at the point of contact of the brushes on the plate on the field coil or is this the armature?(the part that turns). Not actually on the motor plate. Sorry for my ignorance.
Regards
Robert

Hello Robert,

Welcome, Your Armature (the part which rotates)is probably shorting out between the copper segments. Take the armature and clean between the segments with a small brush and use Alcohol (not the stuff you drink please) see if this helps.
Also make sure your drive is moving freely ( all those gears)

Thanks Martin for the advice, I had a close look at this and it appeared to be clean in between the plates, I have managed to get the loco going. I had completely dismantled and thoroughly cleaned and then oiled the loco, the part I missed was the tiny contacts on the switching unit, cleaned them and now does not miss a beat in either direction.
Thanks again Robert
PS no doubt I will be back with more problems !!!!!!!!!!!!
