Hi

it seem that Marklin will tell us something about the news of 2013.

>Märklin.nl<

Has somebody the photo of the presentation of the news? may they tell us a little new item

Voorspoedig 2013

Knowing some Dutch:

Prosperous 2013

[01.01.2013] Märklin wishes all readers a smashing new year!

The preparation for the presentations of the new items 2013 is in full swing. You have perhaps received an invitation from your dealer (otherwise you'll get it soon), to attend the preview of the new items. Check it out!

So two conditions need to be met: 1) to have an invitation and 2) to be in the Netherlands to attend at a dealer's preview show.

Added: If somebody being a native Dutch speaker would improve the translation is fine with me, even if I believe I'm pretty close (otherwise I wouldn't have written it).

The translation of the Dutch announcement is very good!

"spetterend" means "splashing".

This is not very exciting news at all and not confined to The Netherlands.
On numerous German websites of Maerklin sellers the same announcement in German can be found.
The 2013 new items will be presented in the last week of January i believe.
Seeing is believing,it took a very long time before the 2013 catalogue was available in the M shop in Rotterdam.

What looks strange to me is that there are two tracks on the lower level and it looks like only one on the higher level. Add to that the fact that only the front track on the lower level has catenary.
The church at Wassen in the background was a nice touch.

A typical Märklin photo, photoshopped as usual.
It's this month's wallpaper:
http://maerklin.de/de/pr...wallpaper/wallpaper.html

The title of the new items brochure can still be a fake.

Our club meeting is on the third Tuesday in every month. In 2011 the new items brochure was released on that day, in 2012 it was out a few days earlier.
Not that Märklin consider our club meetings when publishing the brochure ...

They want full order books - the sooner they publish the brochure, the better ...

Maybe a new tooling based on the Br03.10 new tooling from last year. (37915)

Looks as if there'll be one with sound and one without sound, so I presume it's a new tooling. BR 03 and BR 03.10 don't have much in common, but with their new CAD system it might be possible to save some work.
The boiler of a new BR 03 could also be used for a new BR 41 (with old boiler) - this time hopefully with four sand pipes on each side.

The information on Stummi's Forum came from a Märklin dealer. I think the list is no hoax (but it's incomplete).

The numbers follow the 37955 BR 03 double pack, so I don't expect a streamlined BR 03. Well, just speculating ...

I thought the chassis might be similar to the 37915, but the body will be different in details. I also don't expect it to be streamlined.

Otherwise my wallet sounds safe so far.

Yikes, another Big Boy?? I wonder what will be different this time. However, I already have 2 Big Boys, so I don't need another (I have to keep repeating this to myself, so as to convince myself that I don't need it!)

Both levels have catenary, the top level is quite faint.

Sorry, I meant that only the first (of the two tracks) on the lower level has catenary. The upper level also has catenary, but it is not clear if this is also a double line like the lower level.

There was a lot of discussion in the Stummi Forum about the 29486 BLS Set and whether it would include a model of the Re 486 with the Alpinist livery.
A few posts surmised that it may be a Re 420 as the 2981 and 29483 sets had a Re 421, but I think it will most likely be a Hobby Traxx variant, either 486 or 185 with some kind of freight cars. I'm leaning towards a 486 based on the 36607/36608 type model with MS and basic oval.

It's the plastic era II Rheingold - coaches roll much easier than the tin-plate era II Rheingold coaches.

However, I suggest you to put the two sets side by side ... I did it (in real. Not on photos.)
Like me , you will see that on the Tinplate set (the last one) the engraving of some plastic parts is thinner. This is the case of the sides of trucks on which appear some finer details...

An RE 420 would be a dream come true for me, however at the price mentioned its a bit suspicious, and correct me if I"m wrong but that might require some tooling adjustments to the RE 4/4II mold correct? Also, I may again be wrong here but the BLS 420's are only in the NINA passenger livery aren't they?

The BLS Re 420 were from the first series of Re 4/4II (11101-11155) with shorter body and one pantograph. To date, Maerklin has only made the second series (11156-11397) with two pantographs, so I do not think that we are likely to see a whole new model first appear in a Start Set.

That being said, there are still a few possible variants of the Re 4/4II that we have not yet seen, which might make for interesting Maerklin models:

Re 420 Cargo (simply a Re 4/4II in the new Cargo livery without the pantograph, handrail and other modifications of the 29483/37345).
Re 4/4III SBB (same as Re 4/4II but with modified gearing for more traction, which could be replicated in a model)
Re 4/4III SOB (from 1983-1995) three SBB Re 4/4III were leased to the Suedostbahn
Re 4/4II Zugkraft Aargau with coaches and pilot coach. This would require the manufacturing of three new moulds (EWI A, EWI B and BDt) but would be guaranteed a big seller and would allow Maerklin to expand the coach selection alongside the earlier lightsteel collection. The EWI would be a good choice for Maerklin as the coaches have a scale length of 272mm.
Re 4/4II LION (Maerklin could resurrect the coaches from the 28505 and release a 1st/2nd class coach as well).

I am still waiting for the Re 4/4I (second series) (like 37044) in red, but this time without the ridiculous Station Announcement please.

A BLS Re 486 would actually be the perfect lok for the 47416/47417 RAlpin Set, since they do not make the 36852 Re 485 anymore.

Regards

Well there's one loco I will buy! Drool

Must admit that I feel like a child on Christmas eve. It's great fun reading this thread and the one on Stummis. This "hype" must be worth a lot to Märklin! Can't help thinking back on when Axel Dietz was threating to take Stummis to court for starting a thread like this. Those were indeed dark days... Sad

When it comes to the Big Boy I don't own any of the diffent versions and I won't buy this one either. But if Märklin want's to put one more out I have no complaints. Can't understand why one should criticize Märklin for releasing too many versions of a loco. I'd rather have too many than too few...

They also made Re 481 in starter sets, so I don't see what should prevent them from making a starter set Re 420 with the mould they have.

I suppose it is possible that they could release a model of a Cargo Re 420 as it is basically the same model as 29859.2/34/37344/37356, but in the Cargo livery.
The Re 481 was easy, because those loks (former MThB/SOB/Lokoop) Re 486 (not the same as the BLS loks) were basically BR 145 painted in SBB colours. It was decided early on that those loks would be used only in Germany and were not adapted for Swiss operations. Shortly thereafter, they were transferred to ADTranz Lokpool (later MRCE) in return for credits against the orders for Re 482s. MRCE later sold or leased the loks to other operators.

As far as a BLS Re 420, the Maerklin mould is the wrong prototype. If anybody wants the correct model, they should check out the Roco models 69844 or 68691.

Given a choice, I think that most modellers would prefer a prototypically correct SBB Cargo/LION or advertising lok to a fantasy BLS model.

Given that Roco now also has a model of the second series of Re 4/4II, now would be a good time for Maerklin to release some new variants before Roco beats them to the punch.

Regards

They made it easy for them, using the BR 185 mould for a BR 145 loco. IMHO that's worse than labelling a BR 216 mould with BR 218. So a starter set Re 420 would be a much smaller compromise than those Re 481 AFAIK.
