ESU SwitchPilot (k83) + M* 74490 motor

Has anyone been using the SwitchPilot on their layout to control the 74490 C track motor? Good or bad?

Hi Thomas,

Several of my friends have used these items combined succesfully. Given that the 74490 / 74491 are regular electric turnout mechanisms triggered / driven by a single pulse, I would not see any reason why it should not work. Most of ESU's stuff is simply very functional, and I do not see any reason to believe the SwitchPilot be an exception to my positive experience. Particularly not with the ECoS you are already using.

Regards,
Sander

Hi,
I agree with Sander.
Just be aware that switchpilot delivers negative pulses instead of positive.
That doesn't matter for turnouts, but some special uses may give problems, as already related on this forum

Thank you Sander and Fred.

The plan is to use my ECoS with the new M* 74491 motors and some new ESU SwP. I am also getting some Viessmann signals, which I believe follow the M* protocol, is that the positive pulse?

I do have some VS k83 for the VS signals if the ESU SwP is not compatible.

Hello Thomas,
Lets know how they work out, I ordered an "ESU Swp" by mistake Blushing instead of a "Switch Pilot Servo" to operate four Servos I intend to use on my K track layout where a series of curved turnouts with the standard K track turnout motors look a bit ugly. I now have a "Switch Pilot Servo" decoder but was hoping the "Switch Pilot" would work the other M turnout motors properly. If I like the Servos, I will probably use more of them. That will be in my layout thread when I start it !!Blink

Sander,

I wonder if when able you could ask your friends what pulse time they favor? I think the SwP defaults at 500ms?

Glen,

will do, it will be a while. These should ship from Germany next week, waiting for some other pieces also.

Hi Nev.

I have a couple of the VS k83 in a box unused, likely I will hook them up to the VS signals. I went with the ESU SwP, we will see.

Hello!

Is it possible to use M74490 with switch pilot and have slow switching speed of the turnout with the proper configuration on the Switch pilot?
Thanks

No.
To get a slow switching speed you have to use the "servo" output of the switch pilot AND a servo motor INSTEAD of the 74490.
74490 only gives quick switching speed .

Special motors like tortoise gives also slow speed but with a special control (i.e. not directly drivable by SP.)
